I wouldn't do that. Replacement filters can be had for $6 and can be installed in 2 minutes. The whole routine of removing/washing/drying that DYI filter would take more than $6 worth of time (my time anyway). Plus a washable filter only catches particles on the surface (so it can be washed) while a OEM style paper filter embeds particles inside the medium. Paper filters offer better filtration than washable filters. The whole point is to filter.

You're paying for someone else's time.
Other people's time is worth what they tell you it is.
Your time is worth what you tell others (and yourself) it is.

I use the TYC. I run the filter under a hose let it dry and pop it back in.

One can never have too many light bars.
They're just picking on uninformed consumers. Sucks but it's how the world works.

You guys got me wondering if the cabin air filter, filters the air before it goes to the AC/Heater, or after, or both. Also, what if the recycle air button is pushed in?

It filters the air as soon as it enters the intake area and before it goes into the ac/ heater. I think the recycle setting still goes though the filter but I could be wrong on that. The suction fans sits directly below the filter so I think as long as the fan is sucking air it's going through the filter no matter if the air is pulled from outside or inside the cabin.

It's always been hard for me to predict everything I see on TW. I kinda dig it like that though.

Thanks Mr. Jefferson. That's what I had always thought, but when I saw this thread I realized I had never asked, so I wasn't really sure.

If everyone switched to a reusable filter think of the amount of garbage could be cut down in the US.

But hey, you are right, $6 bucks of your time. That's cool, everyone else in the world will make the sacrifice.

You walk outside your truck, you are in unfiltered air. So the whole "disposable air filters do a better job" argument is just BS.

Wasnt there a thread a while back where someone found a Pontiac replacement that fits the Tacoma for $4-6 at RockAuto?

If you look above where the filter is, you will see a foam filter . that is the air suction for recycling.

Does anybody change/clean this foam filter, or just leave it alone?
