Actually you walk outside your truck (where you drive it), and you get run over. Because you're walking on the highway.

Your truck filters air into the cabin when you're driving it on roads and highways, not when it's parked in your driveway. Highways have full of cars and semis blowing soot out heir tailpipe and full of debris pulverized into dust by vehicles repeatedly rolling over them.

The purpose of the cabin filter is to prevent all this road toxic crap from entering the cabin.

Unlike an oil filter which, if it misses a dust particle gets another chance to catch it the other turn around, the air entering the cabin gets one chance at being filtered. Whatever particle makes it through stays in the cabin until you detail your car, or you breath it in, or if it's light enough it flies away when you roll down your window.

    So yeah, cabin filters FTW.

So you think that this toxic highaay air stays over the highway magically? You don't think the wind may move it around?

Sorry but if you are outside, you are sucking in pollution. If you want to reduce some pollution, try finding reusable products.

The solution to pollution is not delusion.

Dealer would tell me I needed to replace when I was using them for free oil changes. They wanted $30. I turned it down. Got to the point where I just told them up front not to waste their time.

Oh the humanity....how did we ever survive pre-cabin air filters? :annoyed:

I still have a vehicle without one. Whenever I HAVE to drive it, I wear one of those hazmat suits.

Same way we survived leaded gas and asbestos insulation - just a higher disease rate.

The single best feature of a `cab filter (IMHO) is it's ability to screen out SOME of the crap you get when you marry a smoker.....My wife smokes....and with the circulating air in the cab, the filters come out black in a short period of time. I always remind her that her lungs don't come with a replaceable filter.....

I have what I consider to be a more-honest-than-average local Toyota dealership, which is why I raised hell when the poor lady pitched me the "Your filters are really dirty - we recommend replacing them. It'll be $90." I had changed them after the last oil change, 5k miles ago. Costs less than $30 to buy a good set of air & cabin filters off Amazon. Also takes less than 5 minutes per filter.

OP - I buy based on reviews on Amazon. The last one I bought was $9, I think, and the Fram air filters are another $15 or $20. Change them early and often and keep your engine happy.

Amazon reviews are a gold mine, and that's the first thing I check before I buy anything. But given that TW is full of knowledgeable folks on everything Toyota Tacoma, I figured I'd ask too.

when i change the factory original cabin filter on my 2015 it was a TYC filter

I think another advantage of a cabin filter is that it keeps a lot of crap from going downstream into the fins of the interior heater and cooling evaporator. same reason i have a single sheet of bug screen behind the front grill of my truck..

I mean it is in the end just a paper filter - I think anyone of the suggested filters - including the K &N would be indistinguishable in performance assuming proper installation and fit.

TYC = Takes Your Chances :D and for $0.50 more for the Toyota one vs TYC, I'd go with Toyota one so it won't void any warranties. :anonymous: All these blower motor fails aren't just happening by their selves. I'm sure it is from cheap non-oem filters leatting leaves and bugs thru :stirthepot:
