I need to get a camper shell.

Primarily so I can keep things in my bed without worry of theft.

I also may need to sleep in the bed in cold weather - as i do not have an RTT or trailer or anything.

I'm ready to spend 1500-2000 dollars.

    What is the best idea?

I'm leaning towards a ARE CX

Are there any RTT or Trailer options - or bed rack setups I should be thinking about instead?

Shell seems straight forward - rather dealing with complexities of other kinds of setups.

I need a place to sleep / store gear securely in the bed area.

For day to day convenience it’s hard to beat any shell. Security wise it has windows so if someone wants in, they’re getting in. On a short bed though you’re not going to be too comfortable sleeping back there.

There’s a thread kicking around here from the last couple weeks talking about pros and cons of using one. It has some good info and opinions if you can find it.

FWIW I run a shell 2/3 of the year. And I’m starting to lose sight of why I ever take it off at all.
