My ideal camper shell for my army green off-road Tacoma would match my textured black fender flares.

For those of you who have seen the ARE camper shell "O.T.R" coating option in person, does it come close to the textured black fender flares?

I'm thinking that it does not come close. Thinking my best option might be to find a used one and try to paint match it myself. Looking for suggestions. Bonus points for photos. Thanks!

It’s a bed liner like coating. It looks good and is supposed to be durable. I almost went with it for my MGM ARE cap but ended up doing paint match for full trail limo look.

I looked at/for used for awhile before ordering very few for LB. The price difference between dealers was about $1,000 for exact same cap. I drove 2 hrs each way to save a grand. Check several places if you get sick of waiting. Paint won’t be cheap either. I’m really happy with my optioned out ARE.

A while back I photoshopped this. Not great but all good threads have photos. This is another member's truck and photo. User "Gon' Fishin" owns it if I recall correctly. Tacoma 180.jpg

I'm in that exact situation right now. I got a quote from the closest dealer for an optioned out ARE with OTE, windows, carpeting, front slider and it was something like $3800. What?! I got a quote from the next closest dealer and they came in much cheaper. Trying to decide what options to go with.

I ended up at $2600 installed. Vented windoors both sides, carpet, fold-down slider front window, led light etc. dealer near me was at like $3900.

That's not terrible, I could swing that. Which model? Looking at the MX myself.

I went with the CX (cab height) then added Martin Off-road racks on the cab and cap so my entire roof is an even rack for kayaks or extra long shit. Actually my cap had the Yakima rails and aero bars too another $450 option. You have to really look around. I called multiple dealers around Chicagoland all were around the same price then called a place that had a used one listed on CL and ended up just buying new from them, it was an order that someone backed out on and wasn’t exactly what I wanted. They are much cheaper than many dealers sell them for. Granted cost of doing business is higher here than in the middle of nowhere, but still it was a nice drive and great install.

I would definitely for certain do the vented windoors. I use my drivers side all the time. Definitely do a fold down slider window so you can clean the exterior glass of cab and cap, and carpet because it’s nice. I would also do at the minimum the Yakima rails on the top and you can decide if you want aero bars or a rack. The rails will give you the option to install eye nuts on the m6 bolts to hang your own net for pillows bread and light stuff you don’t want on the floor. I rarely use the led light in the cap, I put some Velcro on light sensitive motion activated battery powered lights that turn on when I open any door. Per our PMs I doubt you will find a better place than BTA in Decatur. They did a really nice job on the install wiring and weather sealing.
