I have three large RTK dog crates, two fit side by side at the back of the bed, by the cab, and the 3rd one sits in front of those two.
I'm looking into cargo slides to make accessing the crates at training.

Do they have ones where the tie downs secure to the cargo slide, instead of the bed, so I'm not disconnecting them (at least the ones at the back)?

This is my old Tacoma, with just two of the RTK's in the back.
I like that the 2016 has a wider space between the wheel wells. 21370920_1389852394446699_4437868132763035797_n.jpg

And my new truck (with my old truck)27752293_1527134550718482_2788043502178170091_n.jpg 21370920_1389852394446699_4437868132763035797_n.jpg 21370920_1389852394446699_4437868132763035797_n.jpg , just because. :)

I’ve seen some slide decks for the bed of trucks and they’re pricey. Wondering if you can make something yourself?

I wanted a dc, but didn't want the 45k+ payment. LOL
Thanks, he's my oldest. Five years or so old.
That's what a couple of my coworkers suggested.
I'll look into some DIY cargo glides, and see how much is involved.

I’ve been brainstorming. There are some rollers like a captured marble. If a sheet of plywood were to float on those you can strap the crates to it then just grab at tailgate and pull?

Our dogs are smaller. Boston’s And frenchtons. We actually have about 4 in Tacoma Washington area.

I want something that will also be sturdy in the event of a collision. One of the reasons I'm hesitant to do it myself.

I have three of the crackheads. LOL
These are my other two. The one in front is a 2-ish year old male (both males are rescues), and the sable one in the back is my almost 2yr old female.

I'm north of Seattle, but I drive to Roy (south of Tacoma) on Saturdays for herding training with my crew.

    Is that true?

I thought the only change was higher bed sides, since the same bed mat is used in both 2nd and 3rd gens.

I haven't measured it, but it seems like it, compared to my 2000. The wheel wells look smaller and shorter than the ones in my 2000.
Maybe the bed just sits higher?

I won't put the dog crates in the new truck until I get the new canopy, which hopefully, will be soon.

    Thank you!
That is a good deal on that one! Looks like someone is going to drive to get it.
    It does help!
It will be a little bit before I get one, it will give me time to figure out which one will work best.

Is your goal to have the kennels secure in the event of a rollover and not climb into the bed to "release the hounds"?

Mine is an 07, I don’t have the cash for a new ride. I only have 67k on this one.
Maybe a bedrack for protection or a shell?
We delivered 2 pups up there last October. Took a glassblowing class in Seattle. That was fun.

Primary goal is to make it easier to access the crates for training (rotating through dogs in training), but I also want to be able to secure the crates to the slide, so I'm not disconnecting the crates from the bed of the truck every time I go to pull the slide out, and hopefully it will be a fairly secure hold.

The crates have lockable cross arms on the doors, so the crates should remain closed. Securing the crates would prevent the crates from flying around/out.

You have plenty of miles left on yours! :)

I bought my 2000 a little over 16 years ago, she now has 254k miles. I figured it was time to get a new-ish truck. I bought the '16 just before Christmas. (I kept the '00 as well).

I have a canopy on order, it should get here pretty soon. They said mid Feb.

I took my backseat out to haul tools and stuff. But it’ll work well for crates.

I have been up all night with a sick pup so your problem has grabbed my attention (for whatever reason). Slides are great but they are expensive $$$ I saw an elderly lady at a obedience class who had a crate for her Lab like the one I sketched. Her husband bent two brackets on the back of the crate and mounted two wheels (can't remember if they swiveled or not). The crate sat level and the wheels were off the ground when housing the dog. but when she lifted the front more than about an inch the wheels took half the kennel weight. It might be an option for you and save you the cost of the slide. Just a thought.

That’s a good idea and will work. Use the bed rail tie downs for transport, securing etc

That was my plan if I ended up getting a dc, but I opted not to get the dc, didn't want that payment.

That would be for each crate, right? I'm looking for something that pulls them all out at the same time.

Sorry to hear about your pup. I hope he/she's ok!

I hope you have found a solution but I saw this and thought back to our conversation. I hope you have found a solution in the meantime.
