That web outlined is 1/16" sheet metal. All it does is provide a curved, lightweight mount for the bedwall. The inside portion is only thick enough to prevent the cable and latch points from tearing through. The gusseted brackets tie that slightly thicker portion to the frame in a way the 1/16" web can't since there's no frame out there for it to grab, just more tin.

I was rear ended while stopped on the interstate by some doing 45 and it barely bent . The reinforcement is very heavy. And the stiffener is still just sandwiching the back of the composite bed to the bed reinforcement not reinforcing the bed preventing cracks. See the below image showing just the lip of the composite bed.

The composite bed is excellent, but the rear corners are just a shitty design.

No matter what the stiffeners go into, it is wayy better than stock. Zero regrets here.

Sorry to hear about your collision. It looks like the parts stood up well.

There is no reason for these aftermarket stiffeners they don’t reinforce anything except the factory rear reinforcement which is not going anywhere. It is multiple layers of heavy gauge High strength steel spot welded together with stamping a designed to make it even more ridged.

No thanks but if it works for you great. Wouldnt the bed extender hold the bed together?

Any fabricators out there that have solved the bed extender issue and made a flush version with extra holes for mounting the bed extender? Or can the stiflers just be made a few inches shorter?

I think he's thinking it could do the job of the stiffener brackets. It couldn't since it just rests in a pivot rather then exerting any inward pull and is too flexible to boot. A welded rack might but only if it didn't flex outwards under load. Resisting that outward force is the reason for installing the brackets. It's not for rear end collisions. Camper shells with loaded roof racks are possibly the most susceptible. That's what I have and why I installed them.

Unrelated, but is that bungee net deal the double sided taco kind? If that makes sense. Been wanting to find something along those lines to mount on the drivers side of my truck bed to stash my helmets, shoes, waist pack, gloves, etc.
