Yeah, imo it's just not worth taking the risk to not do it. It's what, a 50k truck (in canada, at least). I'll take the couple of little holes in the bed to know it isn't gonna tear and rip open. And I've seen it first hand, so it's very real to me.

Just ordered TC stiffeners, Tiffany assisted with my order and got me set up.

I honestly had zero knowledge until I stumbled across this thread that the bed was plastic. Although I don’t plan on jumping the truck at the Baja 1000, I do plan on trekking the desert to do my LR steel work so I like the idea of these stiffeners.

What’s not to like? Easy install, packaged well too. :)

The install requires a couple holes being drilled, but I had no trouble following the instructions. I don’t know how to verify the bed is actually stiffer, but after installing the brackets, it is very easy to believe it is stiffer. The parts were all cut cleanly, coated completely, and fit as shown in the instructions. There are a couple additional tie down points, and a bottle opener, if that is a goal….

I have those too, i wonder if they can be installed in the opposite direction like swap them out so they are on the other side of each other facing the other way.
    Does anyone know.

no. the notch at the top is directional, and i believe the large silver bolt is also off-center from the golden hardware which would also skew the directionality.

I like that the bed mat can just rest on top of the TC bed stiffener.

    WOW!

What gives the tailgate section strength (other than the outside metal structure it rests on)?

Seems like even if one does not do heavy off-roading but adds weight to the bed edges, it would cause some sort of bowing/weakening of the edges.

I do like the Total Chaos ones...I don't need them right away either.

My wife would ask, "Why do I need them?" for sure! lol

I never had an issue with the composite bed but on my 2nd Gen the metal yoke wrapping the back of the bed at the tailgate broke twice. Once Toyota Canada replaced it under warranty, the second time no. I pulled the metal yoke out and had someone weld a strap around the outside of the yoke. I didn't have any issue after that. Toyota radius's the inside of the 90 degree bend to relieve stress but that doesn't really help. I noticed it because the gap at the top closer of the tailgate was weirdly wide.

When I bought the 3rd Gen, I picked up a set of Cali Raised because they were the cheapest to get sent to me in Canada and cheaper than a local Canadian manufacturer. I also run a headache rack with bed rails on my 3rd gen.

A friend has Total Chaos on her 3rd gen that a shop installed for her after breaking something on her truck.

We both use are trucks for working in the bush and had canopies on our trucks that broke.
