Agree with the others. Absolute waste of time and money. Same goes for aftermarket exhausts/mufflers on these things. Jesus Christ.

I really like how my borla sounds, i feel like i did not waste my money at all.:notsure:

Also the HPS tube adds a nice growl at higher rpms and cleans up the engine bay, i love it.

IMHO the stock airbox is well designed in this truck. Its the same airbox as 5.7 tundra. Also, the stock intake gets cold air from the fender, so its already a CAI. Most vehicles come stock with CAI. If you want more noise and maybe a bit better throttle response, get an air flow accelerator, remove the charcoal filter, install trd filter and get HPS tube.

Volant makes good intakes, so does trd. If you do get aftermarket dont get the open style filter so you dont suck warm air from the engine bay.

    Good luck!

I did it first with the trd filter and removed the charcoal filter. Definetily added some noise and felt like the throttle response inproved a bit? The stock intake tube has a huuge resonator, which i always hated. Im really happy i added the HPS recently, great noise maker and the engine bay looks cleaner.

Does the 2020 have a charcoal filter?

How is the TRD filter better?

All 3.5s have charcoal filter. Its questionable that trd is better at filtering, it does add a bit of a noise though. But i did run oiled K&N on my ranger for about 7 years with zero issues.

A lot of guys on here hate oiled filters and K&N. I had great experience with those types of filters.

Whats the point of the charcoal filter? Hurt anything to remove it?

Wont hurt anything, you might hear more noise once you remove it.

I used to work for Airaid designing intakes and I can tell you we never sold an intake that didn’t make real power in the Dyno. We spent countless hours getting it right. I don’t know if all manufacturers go to this trouble (probably not) but wanted to chime in and let you know Airaid’s power claims are real and documented.

Despite what everyone says a high-flow CAI will add some hp. Not all CAI's are created equal. Just because it's sucking air from the fender doesn't mean it can't be improved upon. A free-flow CAI improvement can be measured on a Dyno. The TRD one from Toyota replaces the little quarter-cut can with a nice open velocity stack in the fender...

Does that mean they are worth the $500? Probably not. My truck, oddly, came from the factory with the TRD intake, but I promptly removed the free-flow air filter and put in a nice restrictive paper filter because engine life is more important to me than the slight bump in power.

You’re right, and that velocity stack does a lot to increase flow. Combine that with a less restrictive intake tube and filter, and remove the carbon trap if it’s legal in your area and it will make more power. The trick is calibrating the intake tube so the maf still works correctly on the stock tune, or getting a tune to work with the new intake.
