It's not about what is best for my ears. Go listen to them and if you like them, buy them. My listening preference, environment, usage, setup differ from yours. I like harsh metal dome tweeters and some prefer silk or soft dome. My suggestions is to listen to them whether its from Best Buys or your local car audio shop and pick what you like best.

i'm about to buy front and rears so i am interested to know what folks like too. i had Infinity reference all the way around in my last two vehicles. they were nice but i'm not in love enough to stay with that line. i'm thinking about going with Alpine Type-Rs in the 2012 Tacoma. got a MTX 564 amp (70 x 4 @ 14.4v) to push whatever i get.

I ran MB Quart Reference (back when they were still quality) then JL Audio XR's now the ZR's. By far the JL's are what I prefer.

ya ive had my eye on JL components, and starting to think since i already have the subs, the components will probably complement the system that much more... how much do these run for a set of 6.5? i think im goin components in the front and coaxials in the rear

Like others have already stated, It depends on what you want out of your components. I used to sell & install car stereos for a living and have experienced most mainstream car audio equipment. I personally had 3 different sets of alpine type R components in 3 different vehicles. They are incredible(IMO). They deliver a great amount of mid-bass and are very very detailed. The last vehicle I had them in I didn't even run a subwoofer, I just had a very large 2 channel amp running the Type-Rs. I would at least give them a listen. They handled everything I threw at them happily.

    x10!

Alpine Type-R Components really impressed me even up against the higher end brands such as JL. They have exceptional bass/mid range sound to compliment their bright highs. Must be amplified to get this effect from them, but it doesnt take much though.

Crutchfield has them for $300, you might find them cheaper on other sites(ebay, Amazon...)

    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-lFSBDe0eHSq/p_500SPR60C/Alpine-SPR-60C.html

I ran a polk audio momo series amp C300.2 which gave each side about 150 watts. What's great about these speakers is that they will run off deck power alone and sound good, but they thrive w/ a good clean amp.

Focal makes a great set of speakers as well just don't get their cheap ones. The PS series is a great starting point. I had Boston Acoustic components and they just couldn't keep up and distorted so I'd stay away from the BA.

:D :D I like these better than Focals when I listened to them side by side in a demo room.

i had hertz audio 3 ways in my ford lightning and they were awesome. i'm running german maestro speakers in my tacoma. supposedly they bought the rights to mb quartz. i can be doing 80 on the freeway, windows down, and my music is still clear and crispy. i love them. pretty pricey though.

I'm running the HV 165L Woofer. Its part of a 3 way component system, but I got just the woofer from the audio store, the component system was broken up for the install. I really like the pulp composition of the cone, makes for a softer sound when you crank em up.

If you want an amazing speaker with great highs and bass, then the Alpine Type-R will certainly do it for you. It is pretty mainstream but that doesnt take away from quality by any means. I still say a nice set of Focals are better, but your going to double your starting retail price.
    Type-R = $299 retail
Focal Polyglass = $649 retail (and thats only level 2 out of 4 in terms of quality line-up)

Obviously you can find them for much cheaper. But thats just the raw numbers. But to answer your question, I think you will be more than satisfied with the Alpines.

There is a simple trick to dramatically increase the bass produced by your door speakers... Create a "sealed" enclosure for them by using Dynamat or some other form of sound deadener. See my pic below for details. Creating this semi-sealed enclosure will more than double the bass output of your mid-range drivers and with the added benefit of increased SQ, reduced quality lost through resonating panels (rattle), and a quieter cab.
