I am lacking the ability to have logic here. So I reach out to you guys for help.

I am in the market for a 2nd gen tacoma. This is kind of a AC vs DBCB but not really.

It seems the price difference between an AC and a DBCB is about 2k.

I do not have kids, and will not be having any in the near future.

My predicament is the configurations for the AC VS DBCB.

I will have a rooftop tent (I can do the bed rack and mount it there on the AC), but I also have a kayak I will be lugging around. I wanted that to be on the roof as well. I do not want to use the bed as anything but storing and work quarters. I plan to have a CBI tire carrier with fuel so I can't have the tailgate down to fit my long ass kayak anyways.

Ideally I would have the DBCB because a roof rack can be made for the double and not for the AC. So I could put a RTT on top of the rack, and put the kayak on the bed mount or cap with a roof rack. I could also sleep in the back seats if it were too crazy to step out into the RTT.

But can all this be done with the AC (minus the back seat sleeping)?

Is the DBCB really the most versatile configuration, or just the most convenient? Is it worth the extra $?

Help me out if there is something I missed?

Great looking rig. How could I solve the Kayak roof storing issue with the AC?

Double cab will always be more convenient. Even if you don't have kids it will help to have the extra secure, dry storage area.

Yeah I considered these but what would hold the RTT? Do I have to choose RTT or Kayak?

Also thank you for the recommendation.

My current understanding (last I checked) was that a roof crossbars are not made for AC? Is this still currently true?

correct, there are no pre drilled holes to accept a factory type rack on the AC's (like on the double cabbers) but, they do make an aftermarket yakima or thule type mount, bar thingys that might work. if they had holes already, I would have me a prinsu rack on it by now, but I am skerred to drill through my roof. i guess this is a benefit to a double cab to consider

the last I saw prinsu makes a kit to fit roof racks on a ac. You have to drill holes in the roof and install nutserts there's a thread for it somewhere
