I am interested in hearing from different taco owners of what they think is the best (i know it depends on uses) configurations for a new tacoma from the dealer, before anything is added in after market. Just the dos and don'ts of what you liked or what you wished you had done differently, from the perspective of using truck primairly on road, with minimal off road use.
    Thanks.

TRD OFF-ROAD with premium and tech packages is the best value for no regrets on or off-road.

I adore my SR I4 4x4 5spd access cab because I have no kids, I like to off-road, and as a Toyota pickup fanboy, it is the closest thing to the original first gen pickup I could find. It was also 24k, and the engine design is not only time tested and debugged, it’s also assembled in japan. If you like power and creature comforts, or have kids and need room, this is not for you. If you like hucking down trails at a good clip, throwing caution to the wind, like they did it in the good old days, it is.

Premium and Tech packages are great. I also love the bed lights.
I would skip on any factory installed step bars.

This. Also get the blackout package if you're not a fan of chrome.

This was my thoughts when buying my 18 also. However looking at the prices on the 20's I think this is no longer true.

It would definitely be the one configuration that isn't available in :oldglory:, but alas it is all the rage in :canada::

6MT AC TRD OR...it offers the best of it all:

ATRAC - not this CRAWL gimmicky bullshit
    A SIX FOOT FUCKING BED
    Factory rear locker
    Manual Transmission

Just make sure you intentionally get more than you are gonna need. If you don't use it big whoop, if you need it and don't have it... well.

SR manual 4 cylinder 2wd is easy on the pockets and a good daily, but if you plan to do any "off-roading" greater than dirt roads you gotta go 4wd obviously. V6 if you live in mountainous areas or haul anything more than a bit of lumber.

Sport or Offroad with Premium and Tech packages, and tow package if that's not part of the other ones. 4WD if you want it. Everything else you can change or add later if you want. Avoid the CHROME TIPS and the other dealer-added rip-offs.
