Best corded drill?

Milwaukee, Bosch or Makita. Imo, cordless drill with hand tighten chucks are very convenient but have their limitations. Keyed chucks def. have better grip. Corded have lots more torque (see hole hawg story above,lol) but you also have to have electricity and an extension cord. We use cordless a lot at work, but sometimes they just don't cut it,

 

Another vote for Milwaukie, but go with the 1/2" Jacobs chuck. My electricians try their damnedest to break these, but more often than not, the tools will move onto the next job.For the handle, a short piece of 1/2" NPT threaded pipe will work in a pinch.

 

go with the 1/2" Milwaukee. hopefully, they aren't made in china yet like all their cordless stuff. Makita's cordless stuff is now MIC also. my second choice would be Bosch. Dewalt used to be good until B&D bought them out. the same chinese company that ruined Dewalt/Black & Decker now owns Milwaukee. the magnum Milwaukee should last you a lifetime of occasional use. don't worry about spending a little more on it...powertools are not the place to "save" money.

Don't forget a spraycan of cutting fluid to make your bits last longer!

if you do decide to go with a keyless chuck, invest in a drillbit index that has flats ground onto the shank to prevent slippage. milwaukee's Loctor keyless will hold pretty tight, but a keyed chuck will take much longer to wear out.

 

the used motor oil out of yer truck from past oil changes works great too... just put it in a little oil can and it works awesome to drill also great for use on the bandsaw for keeping the band cool.

Milwaukee and Makita, both very good corded drills.

 

I take care of these returns for my Company's customers. The 1/2 impacts are crap. I think they are trying to revamp them now. C r a p. Their new portaband is also junk (corded). The old one was fantastic, but was Made in USA.

I tend to support Makita at this point. They do still have tools that are made Domestically. Many also come from Japan. Having to stay competitive, they also have certain tools made in PRC. Makita is Makita though...no faceless megacorp owns them. I believe Hilti is still a stand alone company as well?

Ha! Sure is. Burned up the Ryobi I linked to. The chuck was good,,the motor was garbash! Found a ancient Cresent Corded. It's hammer proof I think.

 

Hey look a corded drill older than this thread. Skil 542. 58 years and still kicking. One speed one way.

Milwaukee hands down. I have to drill through wood beams on the daily in new and old construction and we run 18 inch 1/2 bits all day long and my company provides the drill for me. For years we had the Milwaukee's and they would snap the bit or twist the shit out of your arm.They run like a drill should run. Then to save a few bucks they recently switched to Dewalt. The Dewalt struggles to drill the same shit as the Milwaukee tore through like butter. Also the Dewalt stalls like it's a dead battery but it's not it's just not powerful enough to do the job. This is the 20volt Dewqlt. At the end of the day using these drills professionally on a daily basis I'd highly recommend Milwaukee, it's the Tacoma of drills.I know your looking for a corded drill but here's my experience with both companies drills .

 

I've got two drills. One conventional and the other an angle.

This is the one that I love to use.

 

Turns out corded Milwaukee drills from that era, not so good. I personally had two that burned up motors. And worse/ Milwaukee, or rather Techtronic (TTI)/Ryobi would not stand behind the product.
