Fifteen + years ago ,when we got a Lowe's, I popped for the 18v porter cable package. Although the tools have held up well, the battery are getting long in tooth and I'm ready for new. What has worked well, or really impressed you? I'm 65 years old, so this will be my last time buying the whole shooting match. I will be using it for small residential electrical jobs and all home owner work.

As stated above Milwaukee. Although I have one Dewalt screwdriver I keep in the house. It gets used more than any of the rest.

I went with Ridgid for my drill and driver set up. Because lifetime battery warranty. IF YOU REGISTER within x days of purchase.

I've only had one battery fail, received new one under a week.

Tools are more than adequate for normal residential use. I rebuilt my 12x20 dock with them. And I was already older than you then. :anonymous:

Milwaukee M12 and M18 are undeniably some of the best tools on the market. The torque they put out is unmatched.

I'm a Makita guy, I have the 18V brush-less screw guns and drills and skilsaws. I used to work as a cabinetmaker subcontractor that did manufacture and installs, both residential and commercial, and we used all Makita equipment. Those tools took a beating in the shop and on the site and kept coming back for more. Never had a battery or drill fail me.

Personally, im using the Makita 18v system, drills, circle saw, sawz-all. They've been pretty bullet proof for me, but expensive.

I buy Milwaukee for my crews at work, we do residential energy audits, and i couldn't justify buying 45 people the 18v stuff, so we are using the m12 to drill 2" holes in the exterior walls of homes from the interior, going through drywall, lathe, plaster and all the other crap people thought was a good idea to put on their walls over the last 100 years. In 3 years of using them, we've only burned one out, and a 2" hole saw is well beyond what you "should" be using with the M12's.

As someone who works with/fixes tools, I'd go Milwaukee, Dewalt, or Makita. Have used a lot of Milwaukee and Makita and they are very reliable.

I have used Makita for 20 years with no issues. Started out with a 12V and now have several 18V tools and absolutely love them. I'm also familiar with Milwaukee from work, and if I was starting fresh, I would go with the Milwaukee. They offer so many tool options that others just can't match...and they are easily found in the local stores. The only place I can find Makita is in Home Depot and they do not have a good selection to look at.
You really can't go wrong as there are several good brands out there. Good luck on your selection!

I just picked up this Milwaukee Fuel 18v set from a friend, still factory sealed, for $200 :D

Upgrading from an older DeWalt 12v NiMH that weighs about 30 pounds, I've been needing an impact & after trying the Fuel line my friend has I was sold! Hopefully I can start adding more Fuel toys for as cheap as I got this set!
