Good to know... my CVJ inner high angle boot ripped after 18,000 miles. From the link it sounds like I should just get an OEM boot and do the boot slide mod. Thanks for the write up and the link.

I really like CVJ, don't get me wrong. They have excellant and fast customer service. When my steering rack dies someday that's the place I'm getting the replacement from.

Boot slide mod (see stickys at top of this section) with oem shafts and oem boots is the only way to solve your problems. Replacing boots is not hard at all if you have any mechanical ability and a few of the correct tools. Only key to the mod is getting the correct gap in the fins, Might take once or twice of setting the inner clamps, installing and driving and checking clearance, but my axles are now at 45k miles since the mod and look brand new minus some road dirt.

    No sway bar.
    My angles are bad.
    CVJ is pretty awesome.
They've been helping me sort the angles.

DP sounds like maybe you ould tell me how to track down an empi outer (part # 86-2321-D) or equivalent? They went from $15 on to $55 overnight on eBay so not an option... So most oem replacements are empis or anything for a 930 should be equal? Already have one just dont want to support the fuckers asking $55 for the 2nd. Empi p/n 86-2321-D

So I got some EMPI inner boots coming in the mail. Is this the procedure that everyone is doing to make these boots fit correctly ??6C6C3194-3A1E-44C2-8986-79375F684203.jpg F62F27AC-67C0-47E9-836D-E20BA57DD3E4.jpg

They come just like the one pictured here! No cutting or anything. A lot simpler than expected 8A4DC3E8-AFCE-4BEA-BB3C-D67837989069.jpg

I have the same set up as yours, what did you end up running that lasted the longest? Im considering the NAPA or CJV option (OEM CV axles are pretty expensive rn), boot modications?

Just buy some OEM boots and follow this video. That's what I did and have not ripped a single boot since. No need for expensive aftermarket ones.

Remanufactured OEM CVs are the next best thing to OEM ones and are much cheaper. Toyota sells reman CVs but I've heard they have been discontinued recently, however many dealerships still have them in stock.

I bought a couple reman CVs from Toyota a few years ago for roughly $150 each. CVJ also sells reman OEM CVs for about the same price.

I wouldn't waste money on the silicone boots and what not that they offer, from what I've seen those tear just as easily as anything else. If your lift is causing your boots to rub then they will tear no matter what material they're made out of

Will do, thank you I'm waiting for new OEM boot to arrive right now and i just watched the video. I noticed he drained the diff oil, is that necessary? He has all the special tools which took him a couple of hours or so to finish the job, how long did it take you to do each side?

Thanks, I called 2 Toyotas in my area in Oregon to verify, and it looks like reman CVs are discontinued. But luckily only my boots are torn, the CVs look ok, I'll be doing the boot stretch mod to prevent fins rubbing

He drained the diff fluid because when you remove an axle, some diff fluid will come out. Not a big deal, you can put a drip pan under it.

The bootslide mod itself doesn't take long, it took me maybe 45 minutes on my first try sitting on the floor criss-cross applesauce style lol. I took my time and made sure I did everything correctly. It's pretty straight forward if you follow the video. You do need snap ring pliers, and that's honestly the only "special" tool you really need. I made the rest work with normal tools. I recommend a decent snap ring plier and not a cheap flimsy Autozone $5 one lol

As of right now, I'm running Oreilly offroad axles because I did end up breaking one of my old axles. They have lifetime warranty and I haven't had an issue with their boots. Maybe an option you'd consider as well. They're like $240 or so each.
