I'm a big fan of the eclipse units cause they're mainly plug and play with our trucks. I just picked a used one (avn 5510) from ebay for $300

I did lots of research about this when i was looking for mine a few months ago and I went with the pioneer AVH-4100dvd. It to me seemed like it was the best bang for the buck. I got mine on amazon for a little less than half off the retail price. I like only thing I don't like is that I thought I was going to be able to hook up portable hard drive to it but it can. You can hook up thumb drives to it no problem. But if money wasn't a problem I would have went with an Eclipse.

Sub $600, I think Pioneer is hard to beat for overall reliability, flexibility, and ease of menu navigation.

Over $600 and the top of the line Kenwoods are amazing, with the stellar navigation they use. I just don't like the hamstringing of power and inputs that the lower levels have. It seems like they reverse engineer their units from the flagship, just for extra sales points. Not bad business, per se, just annoying for me when I don't have the cash to buy the $1000 H/U.

For your price point, I think you'd be hard pressed to find an all around better unit than some of the mid level Pioneer units. Other manufacturers produce good stuff, Eclipse, Alpine, and JVC come to mind. However, each of those units has some shortcomings compared to the Pioneer or Kenwood counterparts, IMO.

I vote Eclipse AVN62D. Uses the factory plugs and you get to keep your steering wheel controls without using add-ons. Great sound too. :headbang::headbang:

I think instead of throwing around our worthless opinions based on what WE define as best; we should get the OP to define what HE would consider to be best.

What features should your ideal unit have? What needs should it fulfill?

What color are the buttons. I am hoping they match the color of the Tacomas other buttons, red.

You can add BT to the eclipse but like I said. I think the biggest advantage is the plug and play of the AVN62D
