Have a Canon Rebel XTI myself. Don't believe they make those anymore though. Have had this about a year and a half. It's my first DSLR, still don't know what the hell I'm doing haha.

Nikon D90 if you can. You will never regret it.
If you can find a used D80 or even a used D200 you will be very happy also.

I own the Canon 30d and 40d Good solid cameras both. I haven't used the 50D yet but it is a good camera too.

In the end (OUTPUT)my preference is for the Nikon. Just so much SWEETER.

    1. The 'Rebel' is a full product line and covers multiple models. There's the Rebel 2000, Rebel XT, Rebel XTi, Rebel XSi, Rebel T1i... just to name the few I can think of off hand. Saying "the Rebel" is not descriptive.

    2. The Rebel lineup is perfectly fine. I've been quite pleased with my XSi for the year that I've owned it, and I've shot as a guest photographer in weddings where the lead photographer has used my work. This is quite an honor for me considering that the bride and groom were both pro photographers as well.

Nikon and Canon is like a Ford vs. Chevy discussion. You need to handle them and decide which makes the most sense in terms of controls.

For a better comparison, you may want to head over to dpreview.com, which performs some extensive reviews on these cameras and will even give some side-by-side comparisons.

the 5000 is an awesome camera but the only differences to the d60 (besides the screen) is it has more focal points (10 i think) 12mp, and i think its 4 fps

Try out the canon xti. you should be able to find one at a really good price. I have an older xti and a 40D but the Xti usually goes outdoors with me because its easier to carry, takes pretty decent pictures and its cheaper..i'd hate to break the other one. u should be able to find one for around 400.
