Alright guys I know that these trucks are v6 and at never going to sound like a v8 but what is yalls opinion on what would get me as close as possible without messing with headers or anything? Iv thought about flow master 10 or 40 duel out axle dump with 5 inch tips?

Not much yet, but do have Flowmaster exhaust, with Rockford Fosgate P600.1Bd 600 RMS Mono amp for my 12" P3 with custom box and a Punch P400-4 Four Channel amp for my mids and highs running 100 watts per channel and have two speakers on each channel, not to mention 6 more hooked to the 4 channels from the headunit as well....Hopefully soon will be a body lift with new tires, and eventually the actual suspension...
I got a Flowmaster single in and single out, and had it installed and they just put a little piece on it, to face down....it ends probably right in front of my back tires...it sounds good, but honestly sometimes I feel like it sounds more like a Fast and Furious car rather than a deep, low tone sounding truck...You know what I mean? I've asked and asked people what I need to do to make it louder, and someone said taking out the cat, but no shop will do that, and I have a feeling it will sound "sick" if that makes sense too. Lol. I wanted to get a Cold Air Intake from like KNN or something, but lucky for me, they aren't legal in California, and no one will even ship em here....So, I'm with you man, I would like to know what are the best options out there....

Stock is best to retain optimal backpressure, torque curve, and tuning with stock motor. The factory tubing is stainless steel but the can is coated steel and will eventually rust.

That being said, aftermarket exhaust will certainly make your truck louder if that's what you're going for.

I've had the TRD stainless exhaust on my truck for six years. It's good but a little loud on the highway. The sound is somewhere in the middle between fart can rice rocket and big block muscle car which is really the best you can get with a V6. I don't think it adds any power but the main reason I got it years ago was because it's stainless and the sound covers the noise of the famously loud Tacoma fuel injectors.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
I like my stock exhaust because it came with the truck and I ended up cutting a large section of it off after the muffler so I would stop smashing it on rocks.

deleted rear 2 cats and went to 2.5 y pipe into a 24" magnaflow with a 3" after muffler exit tubing. sounded pretty good, mainly did it for clearance reasons, it was a bit throaty even at full throttle

i swapped out the stock muffler with a cherry bomb extreme series. (its not like the old school cherry bomb thrush tube. its more of a rectangle shape and its only 6" x 12"). with 3" echo tip kicked out behind the rear passenger side tire.
it actually sounds deep and the reason it doesnt sound like a rice car is because i went single offset in/single offset out.
with a single in and a single out, you are concentrating all of that back pressure to ONE exit, which increases your noise, without sounding like a fart can. if you go with duels, you increase your chances of having it sound like a fast and furious rice car.

talk to a muffler shop and tell them what i told you and get their feedback

I like the TRD exhaust. However I don't think it sounds like a rice rocket.

    Exhaust is very subjective, IMO.

What sounds good to me may not sound good to you.

I have the TRD exhaust and I like the idle and cruising tone, but it's annoying (to me) when I gun it.

I did 8" from the headers back. It's all about flow. I removed every single restriction. I have a 17" exhaust tip because it makes it super loud.

    JUST KIDDING!

Actually, I've made a couple slight mods to my exhaust.
    1) Removed factory muffler - replaced with Spintech 6000
    2) Axle Dumped tail pipe (noticeable tone change)
    3) Re-routed the crossover (noticeable tone change)

I'm having URD Spec-U headers put on this coming Monday! Hopefully that will make things a little rumblier too.

How do you like the Spintech 6000? Why not go with the 9000?

For performance w/o headers, leave it stock. Use your $ on 'real' mods.

If you have clearance issues as some do who off road in rugged terrain, adjust to compensate. Axle dump is usually the first step, but do it right and make it neat.

For making more noise, most anything you do to it will qualify.

For making a pleasing noise thru the power band, from inside or outside, all in the ear of the beholder. For me, I've not heard it yet, although the TRD comes closest.

My TRD headers/exhaust sound great, unfortunately the headers are discontinued now and I don't know If they ever made them for the 2nd gens. But I do highly recommend the TRD exhaust

I've had the TRD for awhile now and it doesn't sound like a fart can rice rocket. Sounds great on start-up.
