I had a MK19 and the M2 in my weapons station, sidearms were a basic M16, 1911, a Mossberg 12g. We towed quiet a few Line charges ( M58's?) for the grunts to blown shit up, it made a nice hole in the ground.

Unless it tears the head of a case off, leaving the body in the chamber, and tries to stuff another round in the chamber. On the range, no big deal. When charlie is shooting at you different story.

They've come a long way since charlie's time. I used the shit out of mine (multiple ones over the years) when haj was shooting at me and didn't have a problem.

Apparently you misunderstood. It was an M16 not an AR.

You know how they work. You fire a chambered round. The bolt carrier moves rearward unlocking the bolt. The case is extracted and ejected. Then as the bolt moves forward it strips a round from the mag and chambers it.

Now imagine the case head tears off. The case body stays in the chamber the a live round is shoved into that.

    Is that any clearer.

The kids who used the latest and greatest version of the M16 in even the First Gulf War had a firearm that benefited from about 40 years of improvements. Completely different ammo. And a completely different environment.

My opinion stands. You are entitled to yours.
