That van looks nice, not sure how reliable a rebaged Toyota is.

I still want that RC Ranger. I can see it with an ARB commercial bull bar and Warn winch skid plates. OME MT64 suspension, a set of those bronze Bronco wheels from Ford, and some skinny MT Baja Boss tires. Front and rear air lockers if those are available.

Probably no less reliable than a Toyota.

    That would be cool.

Yes and no. Aerodynamic drag increases 4x with the doubling of speed…so speed is extremely relevant. Plenty of studies showing gas mileage dropping dramatically at anything over 55-60.

My guess is non hybrid 4x4 tacos will get 1-2 mpg better than the outgoing model best case. And as Doug notes above, if you drive with a lot of skinny pedal as a lot of us will with more low end power on tap with the turbo, real world mpg will actually be worse.

I think everyone figured out that going up hill or towing the turbos would kick in. As I said my friend's 2.7 F150 anything under 60 mph and it gets 28 mpg. Over that and it drops to like 18mpg. I also said I don't know exactly what speed turbos on Tacoma will kick in. You are saying that even at 100 mph they won't. whatever another post that defies physics and common sense.. I guess you also think larger tires won't kill mpg either then post everyday how you don't care about mpg.. lol

wow. I have a gen3, admittedly with large tires, and get 17mpg on a good day. 27mpg?! Wow.

What were the EPA fuel estimates for your truck? For mine, a 2006, it was 20 city/ 27 highway.

The new Land Cruiser with the same engine is reportedly getting 27 MPG's. I'd still take that # with a grain of salt, since paper rarely matches real world. Also not sure if that's the hybrid or not. Interwebs is very vague.

Toyota also took that Land Cruiser 27 MPG tidbit down off the toyota website after all the yahoos went on and on about it all over YouTube. So yeah, major grain of salt.

In my opinion, I think they're the true numbers (on paper) and it was just an accidental release into the wild. Wouldn't be the first time Toyota goofed like that. Hell, wouldn't even be the first time this year.

Yeah maybe. There is a chance that a hybrid model like the limited (or more likely the LC) could get or approach 27 mpg with the stock donut tires. The big tires on the pro or TH are going to knock it down a couple MPG. And there’s zero chance the non hybrid will get there.

A turbo doesn't kick in based on speed. The turbo will spool up and provide power based off the amount of throttle.

Staying out of the Turbo on flat ground, I'd guess around 26 on stock tires.

My experience with turbos mated to an auto is they like to be spooled, even if you aren't mashing the gas and the transmission shifts more smoothly with a little more rpm.

All of this is conjecture until the truck is released. 2024 is going to be a long wait.

You can always guess what the first most popular mod will be? Raptor lights-or will that not be popular for the 4G.

What will be the first recall? Waste gate issue-or something dumb like a seatbelt clip?

Since the waste gate issue was apparently sorted out with a change of supplier, I’ll be it will be simple electronic stuff like most recalls these days

No one will know until after the truck is on the road for sometime.

Sure, but there’s nothing inherent about wastegates that make them a likely failure point. It’s just what you heard about the tundra, so I’m correcting that info.

Those were electronically controlled waste gates which are common on turbo charged engines, and you said you would expect simple electronic related recalls if any.
