CB has become the wild west and it's used by roughians, hoodlums, and communists. ;)

The Ham license test is easy. Some of the easy questions, memorize the rest.
What is the purpose of a fuse in an electrical circuit?
To interrupt power in case of overload
Why is it unwise to install a 20-ampere fuse in the place of a 5-ampere fuse?

Do the practice questions 1-hr a day for a week and you will be good to go. The questions are exactly the same, memorize the answers. Stuff like

For the radio my buddy loves the AnyTone radios. Although designed and manufactured in China, but they are about 1/2 the price of non-Chinese radios, feature rich, easy to use, and sound pretty good.

I was eyeing the Kenwood D74A. It's tri-band with a very wide receive input and color display, but it cost some big $$$.

Given the current economy, I'm still running a BaoFeng. Admittedly it's junk, but it works OK for what I need and I wouldn't cry if was lost, stolen, or broke.
