None are 100percent water proof .. but a low max or back flip Will do a sufficient job .

I have a Lomax and love it. A tiny bit of water gets in when it rains, but it could be because of my installation.

Welcome to the forum from Eastern North Carolina.

Extang Encore. It opens front or rear, can be removed without tools by one person in just a minute, and the front lock can be keyed the same as your ignition/door key.

I got mine from a local retailer for considerably less than MSRP.

I love my back flip! Had dealer include on deal. I think it cost them $850.As mentioned, none are 100% waterproof. Yet- the back flip has drainage tubes that diverts water away from bed. Also- another awesome feature is that it sits 100% flush- can’t even tell I have one . Love love my back flip. On my second gen- I had a tri fold - I think i paid 250 on Amazon and held up pretty good if you wana go cheap . Well spent 250 and had for like 4 years . Sold with my other truck . See pics of my back flip and tri fold .

Spend a bit more if you can and get a roll n lock unless security isn't an issue. Favorites seem to be Bakflip or Extang 2.0.

Bakflip for me. I have the G2 but I believe you may be able to get a MX-4 under 1,000, especially with the Black Friday etc coming up.

I like that it locks and that you can open either end. I got the remote OEM lock for my tailgate so I don’t have a key for it. Not sure how I’d work that out.

I've found the stock toyota cover pretty good so far, nearly zero leakage, plus it didn't cost anywhere close to $1,000.

I’ve previously owned the BakFlip MX4 and find that the fit and finish left something to be desired. Also, the securely of the cable pull release was easily overcome with a coat hanger

I currently have the Leer HF350M. I like the look, quality and fit and finish.
    https://www.leer.com/tonneau-cover/hf350m

Leer recently released a slimmer version (similar to the BakFlip MX4) which I also like.
    https://www.leer.com/tonneau-cover/h650m

Both versions have pinch style release mechanism so it feels more secure. They’re pretty watertight if installed correctly using the supplied butyl(?) tape. Also, there is no drain hoses to mess.

I have the Bakflip G2. It has been pretty stellar so far, even in Seattle! The main area for water intrusion is from the wheelwell flipping water under the factory bedrail caps, which are not sealed.

I have the Leer HF650M and really like the look, quality and fit. I washed the truck today with a pressure washer and have minimal water inside bed. I did not install the supplied butyl tape or extra foam peices along the rails. Figured I'd wait to observe water tightness before I bothered with them.

The only complaint I have thus far is the customer service. A couple of peices were either broken or missing when I received it. I have been trying to get replacements since July. Leer teels me they are having issues shipping to Canada - really???

Your tailgate lock doesn't use the valet key that's built into your key fob?

I found the key in the glove box. Guess the dealer put it in there. Yes I have a valet key, too.

Have the Lomax aluminum trifold works perfectly pretty water resistant. Well under $1000 takes 2 minutes to take it off or put it back on after first set up.

I put the mx4 on mine. I love the multiposotion and ease of removal. Sits very flush with the bed and looks great. I have been in a light hailstorm or two, while I have no dents on the body, there are some dings on the cover. I would definitely buy again.

As far as opening with a coat hanger like someone else said, I am sure you could, but if someone wants in I would rather them slide that in than destroy the whole cover.
