Hey guys, I’m new here and new to Tacos. I’m a few weeks away from my 21’ OR to arrive and I’m looking into getting it lifted 2-2.5”. I’m not familiar with lift kits, but I’m looking at figuring out what all do I need to get it lifted. I’ve done some research on this site and looked around at the major threads and read up on OME and Bilsteins and Icons and Kings, etc. but I’m still struggling to come down to a decision. For what it’s worth, I plan on using the truck for commute to work, weekending with family and doing the camping/overlanding thing. But no serious off-roading at least not any time soon. Thanks in advance for the help.

You'll get as many opinions as you will brands/ types of lifts. For me, since I don't "wheel" every weekend like others, I went with the Toyota OEM lift kit. TRD -tuned (re-branded Bilsteins) for 2" up front and a 1" block lift in the back. You also get the TRD-Pro style grill with a new TSS sensor and calibration (it's a to each his own thing with that). OEM designed, and factory warranty. After a couple of weeks - I'm really happy with it. The list is long though man, there are dozens of kits out there to get you the lift you want.

All depends on your planned uses and budget. IMO a 5100, OME, or Eibach lift with a block in the back would be fine for plenty of uses and should come in at or under $1000.

If you're going to have a bunch of weight in the back on the regular, a full leaf pack might suit you better.

I have the Eibach with 3leaf AAL on my truck and I love it. I'm sure Fox or Kings would be way better, but I'm very pleased with the look and ride quality if the Eibach set up.

I'm considering the TRD kit, but the dealer wants to charge me over $3k for parts and labor which is a big difference from what I saw online where the kit is $1,300 plus labor. That means the dealer is charging me about $2k for labor? 20hr job? LOL
I'm also thinking about getting the 4Runner TRD wheels and tires installed before I drive off the lot with it.

That quote's a bit high compared to what I paid. The cost of the lift was $1203 (on sale) and I paid $1228 out the door for labor - which INCLUDED mounting & balancing 4 new tires. You might have to show them the hot sheet which calls for 4-5 hours labor and have them explain where the added costs are coming from. It varies from place to place man. My local dealer, service rep, and tech (West Kendall Toyota) take good very good care of us down here. You shouldn't be paying more than about $2500 installed, out the door.

As far as brand goes, you can't go wrong with any that you listed.

I have a new 2021 Off Road and went with the Bilstiens 5100’s and add a leaf in the rear. I went with the Trd pro wheels with a 285/70/17 K/O 2 tires. Love the look however it does rub when turning into a drive way or parking lot. Not sure if an alignment will help going to have it done next week.

Pick the brand(s) you like. For your expressed purposes, lift 1.5”.

Lovin' the look of your Tacoma man. Was it a 2/1 lift? What was your total $$ on the suspension, wheels, and tires?

Thanks .. It was like $4100 includes labor

Front and rear Bilstein 5100’s with OME springs and add a leaf in rear

    SPC Upper control arms

    Factory TRD WHEELS 17 x7 with BFG A/T K/O 2 285/70/17

Approximately just a tad over 2 inches
With tires almost 3 inches in total height

It went from 35 1/4 Stock to 38 inches with lift and tires
