I have a friend who just got an off-road package double cab. He wants to be able to run 255/85/16.

I know there are lots of posts/pages on this very topic but what is the best lift to go with in order to run this size tire without rubbing or cutting/trimming wheel well?

    Thanks!

No lift needed, but the best lift for that size would be anywhere from 1-3 inches.

265/75/16 is listed as the biggest that will fit with stock suspension.

Diameter on the 255/85/16 shows 33.07 inches vs 31.65 on the 265/75/16.
Looks like those might be a little tall for stock suspension.
