Here goes the question that comes up time and time again. I have researched quite a bit here on the forum and it seems a majority of Tacoma owners on here go for the adjustable type of lifts with new struts and coils. These lifts only go up to 3" I really want something in the 6" range. My truck will not be taken off road for sport. With that said I do not need all of the functions of the lifts many have on here. My main concern is highway quality riding (not something that rides poorly or rough) I want a quality lift that will last that is a 6" lift $$$ is not a concern.

I really like the Icon set up stage 4 or 5 but I would like more lift...I understand a 6" lift will require cutting my cross member which is essentially going past the point of no return.

I'd go with a 4-5" RCD lift and add some OME 884 springs to get another 2". Custom Alcan leaf springs out back.

Is this what they call a "drop bracket" kit? I'm new to the tacoma and trying to learn my terminology and lift options. If you don't mind giving me a brief explanation of what a drop bracket kit does I'd appreciate it.. if not I'll just research.

I'm guessing it drops the lower control arms with that new crossmember and the bigger spindles are included because the old ones obviously would no longer work. This allows you to fit bigger coilovers and raise the truck?

What are the downsides and do you get significantl more travel with a drop bracket kit vs stock or the OEM replacement coilovers from King, Icon, Fox etc.

How do they compare to the LT kits? I would think LT kits would be better across the board except maybe at achieving higher lift heights.

Sorry for thread jack but it's relevant information to the topic.

Less clearance and travel than any 3" lift kit (yes I am being serious)

No comparison. LT over brodozer lifts any day.

MKW I will do my research on the RCD lifts. I was not aware that you could get that much lift out of those. Also I realize that the other type of lift will not provide much suspension travel as stated earlier you can get a better performing lift and more ground clearance with something like the Icons or fox kits

To me, The RCD with added lift coils would be the best of both worlds. Several folks on here have added lift coils to the RCD kit to get more lift. This way, you get more lift AND get some much needed ground clearance for the crossmembers.

I am new to this so would it be best to go to the RCD website and look for their kit?

There is a very large thread on here somewhere about the RCD lift. Just search in the 2nd gen forum. Lots of info there.

The listing show a 5" kit for 2005-2014 Tacomas. Mine is a 2015 is there any differences? If so where do I find one for my year model

The shock mount on the rear axle need to be opening slight with a crow bar and the shocks will slide right in. Did it on my brother's 2015 installing an OME kit. Nothing affected no issues has at least 1500 miles on them so far.

Again. I am new to all of this. So what is the difference (advantages/disadvantages) of the RCD setup versus lets say a 6" BDS or Fabtech?

By the way looking at the BDS 6" Coilover Suspension system with the Fox Racing struts. I like what I see so far. Its just a hefty amount of money and this truck is my baby so I want to make the best informed decision I can make before pulling the trigger.

Would I need the performance coilover series or just the base 6" IFS BDS system? I dont mind paying more but i DO mind paying for something I simply do not need. Is the performance series more for hardcore off roading? If they provide a better handling/drive on the highway then I will go for the performance over the base IFS series

6" lift and offroading = not good.

Limited clearance and suspension travel. Not to mention you are now sitting at a higher center of gravity which means a higher chance of rolling over. If you plan to do any offroading ever, avoid 6" lift kits.

While we're on the topic of "Best Lift" I'm just gonna jack this thread again.

Am I wrong to think that extended travel king coilovers w/ resi's in the front w/ total chaos UCA's and king extended travel w/ resi shocks in the rear w/ deaver leaves is about the best you can do short of a LT kit?
