Ok gearheads. I just can't find a definitive answer on lube products for my 2002 3VZ machine. This website has a lot of data but I can't figure it all out. I have a 2002 5 speed, 4 cyl 2.7 engine. Here is what I ask:

1)Should I use synthetic oil in the 5 speed manual gearbox? If so, what are a few good choices to put in there?
    2) what lube material do I use for the rear differential?
    3) what the hell goes in the power steering pump??? geeeeez....
    4) what about an excellent choice for the 4wd gear boxes??

All kinds 3 inch body lift/2 1/2 suspension lift. 31/11 1/2/15 tires All work done by myself for years. The only work performed by mechanic was fuel pumps. I also have a 90 Mustang 350 hp and I can never understand how come my Tacoma gets more respect Just got a 99 Jeep TJ that I rebuilt, and painted in the garage
I have owned mine for twenty plus years and I have done synthetic Castrol for 250 thousand miles. My engine is so clean you would think its brand new. High mileage I would run conventional oil if that what its had. It would leak probably from what i have seen. This could start an oil fight

Well I got good news for you.

You dont have a 3vz, which is a good thing, those are head gasket eaters and they stopped making those in 95ish.

You almost certainly have the 2.7L 3rz.

These others knew that, but were willing to let you to live a lie.

shame on them, bad karma will most likely be their demise,
wouldn't follow too closely or stand too near.

I was thinking 'T-bone' or a spun rod bearing.

Cant help you on the manual tranny juice, I'm an auto man.

For power steering, most here flush and switch over to synthetic ATF.
Valvoline MaxLife atf is popular here, or for economic, that super tech atf from Walmart.
Or any Dex III atf or newer will be fine.

If you don't know what's already there, got to flush all the old stuff out.

For differentials, gear boxes, a good economical choice is those squeeze bottles of the synthetic Valvoline 75w90.
Last time they had those on sale at Advance...2 for 24.99....

You left out the brake juice...dot3 or newer...

I like the Prestone syn max, supposed to be good for 10yrs...

but I do mine every 4 or 5 years, its the hygroscopic thing that makes it go bad and then corroding anything ferric inside your brake system, especially under heat/pressure....

Except for DOT 5 which you cannot use in a DOT 3 or 4 system because it is silicone based and will ruin most rubbers. But you can use DOT 5.1, important distinction. DOT 5 is only for racing, with systems designed specifically for it.

I was under the impression that the dot5.1 doesnt suck water.....so it could essentially last forever.

But they thought that too, about that pink coolant, until the blown/leaking head gaskets started piling up.

If you don't use fipg, you can use any coolant you want, not sure why you'd ever use that either.

For coolant I recommend Peak 10x..... dont be a cheap lazy ass....change it every 3yrs

    Did I disappoint you?

As soon as I saw the thread title, that was the first thing that came to mind!

I am more than qualified to operate a manual transmission ;)
