For a while I've been really on a hunt for a new muffler for my 2000 tacoma 3.4L V6. I've done some looking up online and I really like the magna flow. The only thing is I dont know the differences of sound quality between the 14" and the 18". If someone could just break it down for me that would really be great! I am looking for a nice loud deep throaty tone but defently not too loud to wake up the neighbors.

videos don't really do it justice.

You kinda either have to find someone with that muffler and bribe them with a beer to let you drive around in it, or just roll the dice based on other people's subjective opinions of what they sound like.

My guess is that there isn't likely much of a difference in sound between the two, it more for fit, or one is designed for the 4cyl, and one is for the v6, but that's just a guess.

    Have you tried contacting Magnaflow?

The biggest difference is going to be that the smaller one is louder. OTOH they also make a 16" which is right in the middle.

I have a 14" Raptor which is also a turbo type muffler and I don't find it too loud, granted over 50 I can't really hear the exhaust over my mud terrains anyways.

I bought an 18" MF one inlet/two outlet for my 2001 v6. I was assured both here (through reading) and by the very muffler shop where I got it, that the 18" would not be that loud.
I set off car alarms on the way home. I spent ONE day with this LOUDass muffler that literally gave my gal a tension headache. Next morning I had a stock one re-installed and that Magnaflow has been hanging in my garage ever since with ONE day's use on it.
    Just saying.
In my opinion, our v6's sound just sucks generally, and to amplify it is ridiculous...except to maybe young, indiscriminate ears.

It's an interesting case of YMMV based on what you're willing to tolerate :notsure:

I have headers and have had the 14" muffler with a turn down under the bed and have never had those issues. I set off an aftermarket car alarm once for the first time a few weeks ago. I was only going about 10mph in 4low through a dirt parking lot at a trail. That said I'm sure my grandma would hate to ride in my truck due to the noise :)

Could go the other direction. My 2.7 with what I presume is stock exhaust sounds like a Dyson vacuum cleaner when heard from the other end of the house.

I've likened the sound of my v6 to a giant Hoover vac a few times in here:cheers:

I have the MagnaFlow Exhaust - Stainless Series (15811). It sounds nice and deep, not raspy. Also doesn’t get in the way of my Allpro bumper.

I welded in a Dynomax super turbo 2.5" in/out. Perfect tone imo. Not too loud, not too deep or raspy. Everything else is stock on my exhaust system except for the SS tip.
I had a straight through 14" magnaflow prior but I found it too loud. Sounded nice but it makes the truck sound quite slow on uphills and everyone could hear me from a block away.

Can someone put me out of my ignorance and explain WTF it is about? :notsure: As far as I know nobody gives a rat's ass what your exhaust sounds like when you drive your truck - other drivers keep windows locked up and play stereo with they favorite music. But if it is what you like to hear, it will be easier to just stick CD into you radio with whatever sound you want to listen to.

Oh well, maybe I'm to old for that crap.

i have been behind a few uber big RAM diesel's with a tailpipe larger than my head almost, they are loud and impressive, but its way too much for my little pickup!

I care what my truck sounds like. I don’t own and maintain it for anyone else but me and for my enjoyment. YMMV. To each their own.
