This is prolly one of Zero Tolerance's number 1 selling knives:

This is a ZT0301. The blade is made of S30v steel (one of the premium super steels), frame lock design by Ken Onion, G10 3D sculpted handles, titanium liners, DLC tiger stripe blade that is very durable. Weights a little over 8 oz and is torsion-bar assisted opening via flipper or thumb stud. Also, because the pivot is so huge, you approach fix blade strength in a folding design. It's something like 8000 lbs of force before the pivot breaks. You'll break the lock or handle before the pivot.

    Gorgeous knife.

The ZT knife that outsells the ZT301, is the ZT350 because it is smaller and lighter so it's perfect for everyday carry.

I carry a CRKT M21-14. I like the overall shape of the blade and the fact that it has a true hilt. I have the veff serrations which work well for cutting softer things with one swipe, but if you want to cut rope and things of that sort I'd look into a normal combo blade. Also check out the spyderco military. It seems to get a lot of praise. For fixed blade I would definitely take a look at esee. While they are bushcraft oriented, they would make a badass tactical knife. They also come in clip point variations which have a sharpened portion on the backside of the blade. Clip point generally just means that the backside of the blade is cut or "clipped" towards the tip. On esee clip points this edge is sharpened. Photo for reference...

if you want the best... it'll cost you

folding knives i would go with strider or zero tolerance.

fixed blades busse, strider or zero tolerance.

some of the custom guys make nice stuff but, imho they all fall behind those mentioned above in many ways.

Chris Reeve is a knife designer/ knife maker. His most well known blade is a "Sebenza"

    A little bio:

Chris Reeve knives are known for their innovation and quality, with a superb customer service department to back it all up. Over their more than 20 year history, Chris Reeve has continued to develop and improve their knife line into one of the finest quality products on the market. These knives are often considered semi-custom, being made mostly on a CNC mill but with many hand finishing techniques and a tremendous amount of attention to detail. Several custom options are available on these knives, including thumb pin configurations, unique hand machined designs, and a wide range of rare and exotic handle materials. Chris Reeve continues to raise the bar, updating their ever popular Sebenza knife, and expanding their line of one-piece fixed blade knives. The company also refurbishes their Sebenza and One-Piece knives for a small fee.

The Chris Reeve Sebenza has been a staple in the knife industry for several years. It's titanium frame lock design provides a simple but tough body, and its CPM-S30V blade holds a superior edge. The handle of the Sebenza is often inlayed with micarta or machined and anodized with some truly breathtaking artwork done by Lisa. Once a year these knives are available in a limited run of rare and exotic woods and other materials such as ivory or mammoth. For a nominal fee the Chris Reeve Sebenza is also available with an inset cabochon or blade customization options.

He makes gorgeous knives that a everday carry/gentleman folders. He does make a few fix blades.

He makes very high quality, high fit and finish knives.

Older Kabars are great, and even the current ones too. Good price. Very well known, infamous blade and name, but Kabar quality might be going downhill pretty soon. Kabar is now owned (happened this year, I think...) by CUTCO which makes some of the shittiest kitchen knives I've ever handled. Cutco's crap will probably be transferred to Kabar and ruin the name.

Really all depends on what you use your knife for. Just make sure you don't buy from those guys that have the $10 boxes and $20 boxes and all that. Shady quality.
