Last year when I was looking for a TRD sport in '18 with the '19's on order at the dealerships, It seemed to make no sense to buy because the 19's were only $900 more and they refused to deal on the 18's.

I believe it was July or August when I was at the dealership. Should I have waited a month or two to get more leverage?

So now it's '19 and the '20's are coming with upgrades and refreshers. Do you think the cameras etc will be enough of a motivator for dealers to clear out the '19's due to popular demand for the '20's? I get caught in the grey zone of (paying more/one year newer making up the resell value).

This is a no brainer for any other vehicle but here in the Bay Area with Tacoma's, the dealers seem to hold the power due to the attitude that if I dont buy, the next guy will.

January and February are generally the slowest months of the year. People are overspent from the holidays and hibernating the new layers of calories.

If you show up during a particularly cold week, you can be certain you will be the first breathing human they see walk through the door in days.

Nice but I'm in California. Not sure weather would be a factor. But in January finding a previous year truck seems difficult.

Decembers a good month as well. Salesmen need the holiday money and financing will budge alot more to get their cut to give little Jimmy his Xbox for xmas.

Source: Got my ‘17 in December.

What about how it relates to the new models vs old. It seems the panoramic cameras are the new feature of choice for '20. Wondering if the '19's will be stale on the lots allowing me negotiating power due to lack of interest. I guess I could live without cams or just mod a grill mount later for parking purposes.

Yes, December can be good. Some dealers want to finish the year with a bang.

I lived in California for 20 years: if you get rain for three consecutive days, people start calling it the storm of the century LOL

Likely, yes. Last week of October, last week of november, last week of december are your best chances. A lot of it comes down to luck also, not necessarily on a dealer level, but on an associate level. If you stumble across a sales manager thats having a bad month and is feeling the pressure, you will get a good deal no matter the time of year.

    Yep.
    February.
It’s cold no one wants to walk a lot(Midwest) unless they absolutely need to. January/February at dealerships are slow. It’s after Christmas and before tax return money arrives!

I started looking for deals Super Bowl weekend . 2 weeks and a dozen dealers within 100 miles I got a great deal. If you have several dealers in a 1-2hr drive radius you’re golden!

You have two variables working in opposite direction: availability vs discounts.

If you want a particular color and/or equipment, the longer you wait the harder it becomes to find. If you just want White, Silver or Black and no Premium Package, chances are you should be able to wait for prices to come down and still find what you want.

One of the best deals I got on a Wrangler was buying a leftover 2013 Rubicon in January 2014. It was avocado green (called Commando green) with tan interior. I absolutely loved it; 90% of shoppers hated it. I got it for $5,000 off and loved every minute I owned it.

But Toyota doesn’t normally come out with such risqué colors.

Got my '18 in October, then again it was 2 years since my last purchase so they matched the deal they gave me on my first one.

I would say High 35k to Low if not even 36k

GREAT deal would be 34.5 out the door.

Same here. I thought I was being taken as a sucker, they approached me in October when I was getting an oil change and said "our used car lot is low on inventory, our new lot needs to move inventory, and we really want to buy your 2016." After doing the math on the trade-in vs new loan, it was basically $6000 plus some interest to get a car with 43,000 miles fewer on the odometer. I couldnt say no to that.

Nice! To me My first '17 was the first time I ever negotiated a deal I know I did good in December. Truck got totaled. Went in October of '18 to pickup a brand new '18 with all the new TSS bells and whistles. Got the same deal, either due to them just wanting to make a quick deal or forces unknown. But I picked out my truck and was out the door with the keys in 2 hours.
