Sounds about right. I consistently get 24mpg each way on a regular run 30 miles up the coast on a 55mph hwy.

    That's not really science. :D

MPGs depend on a bunch of factors. Aero, gearing, torque curves, the driver, the roads, weather, up hill / down hill, tires, tire pressures, etc.

Some cars can whip along at 80 and get great MPGs. Some trucks these days get killer MPGs. Our Taco is a bit of a brick with a narrow band on the engine that can produce torque to maintain speed and not drink fuel.

For the Taco, it is whatever gets you into the OD gears and allows you to just brush the throttle to maintain speed.

My very best was 31mpg over 20mi. I was chilling on a killer road doing about 30mph in 6th, with no one in front or behind me.

That said, you gotta balance economy with time and the flow of traffic. A few times, I said fuck it. I just wanted to get home and took the MPG hit doing 75 to 80. Those MPGs were not pretty, but not horrible either. 19 to 20 over a long distance.

The 55 mph was set back in the late 70s during the "fuel crisis" time. Not sure exactly how the 55 mph was determined, but it was passed into law. I don't recall many laws based on science. That is also the time when E10 fuel became a norm. The E10 was able to "stretch" the fuel supply with little impact on performance and efficiency. Unfortunately, gasket materias were not compatible with the ethanol, this led to problems. The E10 problems were solved many years ago, although the myths of the problems continue to remain.

I do know engine efficiency, vehicle drag (mechanical, aerodynamic), rolling resistance, load, acceleration, plus a host of other factors will determine the vehicle's efficiency (mpg).

Best single trip mileage: 24.6 mpg, 74 miles almost all highway at 70 mph. Probably would have been better if it wasn't at 7,000 feet above seal level.

    Best tank mileage: 19.8 mpg.

Well it depends how aerodynamic the vehicle is. The taco is shaped like a brick in the front, so the slower the better. It won’t make such a huge difference on a lowered vehicle for example.

How does the 2016+ 2.7 fair for MPG real world? Does the lacking power kill it in the climbs and wins on the flat ground?

Think the gen 1's needed to be revved out to make enough power and it killed the mpg on the highway so the v6 was the better commuter, but that might have been a forum's perspective or owners in different altitudes chiming in.

The 3rd gens with 2.7 get pretty much the same mpg as the v6. That’s why IMO the 4 banger is kind of pointless. The AC 4cyl with a manual would be kind of cool though.

I've found that if I get regular Sam's club 87 I get 18.6-19. If I get gas at Mobil near my house and get the 87 (Extra) I get consistently 25.5-26 mpg. I've never seen that much difference between fuel stations and only started trying it after I felt like a tank lasted longer when I got it one time. Now I've consistently tested it and solidly 18.6-19 mpg at Sam's with 87 and 25.5-26mpg at Mobil with 87 (Extra). Haven't done the math yet to see if the extra price is justifiable.

(Edit) just did the math and at the price currently at both as long as I stay 24 mpg and over its worth it to pay the extra. It's about a cent or 2 per mile cheaper with the more expensive. I know that's not much but it's also more convenient to go 2 blocks vs 15 miles.

Best I’ve gotten with mine in a long time. Backroads. Stayed under 65 mph. Hills and flats. Pretty happy with that.

I have a 2021 dc Trd. I put a chin spoiler on it(to prove it helps or not). I just took a trip from Chicago to Sarasota. In flat states at 72mph with 200 lbs in the bed and just me as a driver, I averages 24.3. In hilly states, I averaged 23.2. I ran the cruise only in the flats. My truck trans programming is not bad. Cruise doesn't know what sort of hill is before it, so it downshifts to be safely in the power, but did hurt milage a bit. Mine holds 6th gear pretty well, sometimes too long and take a hard push to shift down to 5th. Overall not terrible.

Some of these MPG's reported are killing me. My 2020 TRD Pro is getting around 19-19.5 on 40-50 mile trips at 72mph cruise, mostly flat terrain. I've only got about 5500 miles on the clock, so maybe it will improve slightly in the months to come, but not likely to be too much.

So far, on our trip to North, 60 parallel, Northern Alberta boarder I got 10.5 litres/100 km, which is 24.698 miles/ US gallon. Speed approx =/- 60 mph.
Conditions: very horizontal surface, Wrangler Kevlar stock tires on sticker pressure, air temperature +23.
Driver and passenger+200 lbs of load.
    Well... Happy! :bananadance:

My 2nd gen doesn’t calculate it for me. My own calculations says I get 32.8 mpg so you are all high.
