    What's up guys,

I have a new set of scs wheels that need some new rubber. I currently have the stock Firestone Destinations and haven't had any complaints. I Daily drive my truck and Rarely go off-roading.
I was thinking about getting a set of toyo open country A/T III bc or the aggressive look. Will I lose MPG and gain a bunch of road noise switching over to A/T? or should I get a set of street tires?

    thanks,

Toyo ATIII is a great choice, you might lose 1-2 mpg, but I think the look would be worth it. They aren't loud at all

AT3's arent whisper quiet either. They are a great choice regardless.

The best quiet all terrain is the mild Yokohama G015

When you buy the SCS rims make sure to match the tire width with the new rim width. Stick to 7" wide rims for the easiest tire selection.

For a highway tread, any reputable brand tire with "H/T" tread will do you good. The firestone LE2/3 is actually a good tire. Michelin LTX makes an expensive but premium highway tire.

If you’re ok with an Adult looking tire the Michelin Defender would be the hands down best tire for you. If you want to buy a tire for a gnarly look, you will probably buy something else.

I have those on my 4X4 F150. They are very quiet and reasonably aggressive for mild off road driving. Since I've never had anything but AT tires on either my Tacoma or F150 I can't say 100% about fuel mileage changes. But I'd bet if there is any difference at all it will be a fraction of 1 mpg. I doubt if you'll ever notice. In the past the only time I've ever noted any difference was with very aggressive mud tires. AT tires don't usually make that much difference.

And if you want the ultimate in quiet and smooth riding buy Michelin. They cost more but last a long time. I think they look good and will do for most mild off road driving.

One can never have too many light bars.
I am sort of in the same boat. I currently have Hankook Dynapro ATM's which are probably overkill. My tires see the occasional dirt fireroads and some snow on the highway but that's it. I am looking at the Cooper Discoverer HTP's for my next tire. They look like they are a tire meant for highway with a slightly more aggressive tread for the occasional dirt day. Price seems reasonable too.

Generally, the more aggressive the tire tread, the more noise it will make and fuel efficiency can suffer.

Take a look at the Michelin offerings. Defender LTX M/S or the LTX A/T2.

Sure, Michy is more expensive, but that depends on the comparison.
Not many tires will have the long life and life long performance as a Michelin.

My Brother-In-Law runs LTX AT2 from Costco, he's on his 3rd or 4th set and love them. Zero noise, zero hassle, can still handle some dirt.

What mileage life does your BIL get from a set of the Michelin LTX A/T2?

If you'd like to get opinions, a better title would be to ask "what are the best highway terrain "HT" tires".
