There are are more tire companies than BFG, you see BFG in those races because the do alot of sponsorships. BFG is just overpriced, good but overpriced.

I agree BFG's are expensive, but they are worth it imo

I am interested as to what tire would be the best for max grip when offroading with a NON 4x4 and no rear locker. I currently run the nitto Tg's and haven't had any issues yet but want to know what is better for best performance when you don't have 4x4.

Pretty much a tire that will compensate for the lack of 4x4 and rear locker. :D

A 44" super swamper at 16psi - on the right rear only and 6 bags of sand in the bed, LOL J/K brother.

I run the TG's too and they're really good tires, but I got those because they're quiet and inexpensive. The BFG's these guys are talking about are some pretty awesome tires. Like your TG's and like the BFG's shown here, make sure you have the tread wrapping around the side wall and that it's serrated / stepped in an alternate fashion.

Are you mainly navigating dirt / gravel roads on steep inclines, etc? You're probably not hitting mud / deep sand...

if you want to go muddin don't buy a two wheel drive in the first place. No matter what tires, a two wheel drive wont get you through half as much as a 4x4 with some nice tires.

My Nittos kick arse in the mud, sand and dirt as well as rocks. Not problems with them, either.... this thread is full of great tire suggestions.....

Here's a pic of one of my Nittos...

STA trailbreaker's... they rock have had multiple sets and have a set currently on my
m-1008 military chevy bfg's are GOOD tires great all around tires...but not the ultimate for mud/rocks/sand... goodyear mtrs were good but I thought for price they were too easy to puncture... buckshot mudders are decent tire for price... trailcutter rt's are good have set on 2002 dodge ram 2500 diesel right now.. nitto MT's wear way too fast...swampers are ok but wear wuickly.. ground hawgs by denman tire last a long time on light truck and are great offroad... pricey though...walmart brand super sport MT's are pretty decent for the money good in snow and mud... not oo hot on rocks though.. mickey thompson you are paying %95 for name and %5 for the actual tire... parnelli jones dirt grips are a decent tire all around but cost way too much... gumbo mudders were pretty good but pricey and hard to find anymore.. coyote radials were ok in snow and sand but werent hot for mud... hope this helps.. I have owned over 100 cars/trucks so I go through alot of tires currently have like 8 sets laying around or mounted on trucks

As for agressive off road capable, yet 'streetable' tires I'm for the BFG KM and the newer KM2's, Toyo MT, Procomp xteme AT and xtreme MT's, Dick Cepek Mud country's, and i've also heard some good about the Nokian Vatiiva MT's.
I had some Cooper ST's that did good all around for the first 1/2 of the tread then after that they kinda sucked, especially on wet pavement and in snow. They wore for 40K miles before i put on my BFG's but they still had about 25%tread left. They definately handled better than my BFG KM's now but they werent as good anywhere else and were actually louder with a less agressive tread. I have friends with Toyo MTs that love em and seem to hold up good, some with Maxxis Bighorns and they seem to like them, and i know people that have run the Dick Cepek Mountain Cat MTs and they seemed to perform well too. There are really alot of options out there....

x3 On the Cooper STT's.......Work great in Mud,Snow, icey roads, wet roads, sand, rocks. They have super strong sidewalls...........offroad I run mine at 8 PSI. I have yet to have a failure. I'm up in the Northern East Coast....lots rocks, mud. Four other members of my club run these tires also and swear by them they love them so much. The tread wear on these tires is awesome. I'm going on two years with mine as DD and offroad use. Hardly tell there is any wear I run them at 36 psi on the road.
