    Hey Guys,

    I searched google, and used the search option in 3rd gens to find something specific to answer my questions and I could not find anything so that is why I am posting this. if there is a thread already please share it and I will delete this thread.

    I have a 2017 TRD OR DCLB 4x4. I want to lift it around 3-4" inches. Here is what I am planning on buying so far.

    * King 2.5 ext travel w/ remote resi front/back.
    * Deaver J66 rear leafs
    * Camburg Uniball UCA's

    From what I have been reading, the 3rd gens only gain 1" of lift from the Kings unless I adjust them for more lift ( which I do not want to do) . I want all the travel and smooth ride. And The rear I think will gain about the same 1" lift.

    So how can I gain more lift without using spacers, or blocks? A guy from Baja Designs was telling me the only way is to weld in a gusset on the stock spindle. Not sure about how to get the rear end up.

    Picture for attention:

    The best way to go up is to do it via the coilovers. There are side effects but is what it is.

    Your headed the right direction:thumbsup: to get the rear up you would need more leaves in the pack, but probably a whole new pack. @sdsurfer can help you his truck is sweet

    I already checked google and TW forum search and found nothing specifically about 4x4 and going more than 2" lift. . "Also please read the full post before commenting. :anonymous: " LOL I mentioned that I searched already and that's why i'm posting this thread right now.

    You will have better luck searching suspension types.

    King
    Icon
    Toytec
    OME (Old Man Emu)

    That said, why don't you want to adjust the coilovers for lift? They are designed to. You actually gain about 1 3/4" lift from factory. All it does it move the shock up through the coilover to give the truck more height without compromising shock travel.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-owners-with-king-coilovers.472876/page-28#post-16138111

    You will also want to replace your OEM Needle bearing with the ECGS bushing.

    It's amazing how many people come on here asking for information on lifts.

    There are tons and tons of pages for it, but I did the same thing.

    I literally spent days trying to find the right threads, each one assembling a piece of info here and there, but with no pictures. Then another thread with all kind of pictures, but no one says what lift or tire size they have.
    I have safely spent months researching this. Then someone nice enough gave me their phone number, I called them, and in 5 minutes I learned more (from a non-sales person) about what to look for, budget, etc.

    Good luck in your search mate, but I understand the frustration in trying to find all the info you need to make your decision.

    It can be difficult to search for what you don't know. It seems easy once you know but it's not up front..generic searches aren't going to get you what you want. What you went through is what it takes though. That's just how forums work. Loads of good information on here but you're going to have to skim through a ton of irrelevant stuff to find what you are looking for.

    I did that on my 2nd gen and it makes the ride stiffer because when you move that collar to adjust it compresses the spring a bit more.

    so much bs and nonsense in some of the threads while looking that it becomes very daunting to find what your looking for. However.... I can normally rely on some smart ass in the group to post a link to a thread that has what i'm looking for + a condescending comment about how "you should try searching" haha . I'm gonna start looking at the build pages of 3rd gens, maybe if I find someone else with more lift I can just PM them.

    This really depends on how much you need more height. Once you get above 3" then you must do shocks and springs and leaf which will change the ride feel forever and it cost much more. I did the 3" with just the shock tower spacer and block under the axle and while not necessary changed the upper arm. The result was very nice and the truck drives the same. Remember a lift give you no more axle clearance but if you want bigger tires then it is a must.

    I'm buying this kit: ( see below ) However, I have seen comments about the 3rd gens only getting 1" of lift from these while the 2nd gen gets closer to 2". My concern is that only 1" of lift will not give me enough clearance for wheeling. Keep in mind I have a long bed double cab so I need more clearance than the short beds.

    Dude, don't worry it. Some folks here have just nothing better to do than jump on folks asking questions. I have never figured out why, as all they need to do is ignore the post if they wish.

    I don't have my lift yet but I believe I will go for one of the lifts HeadStrong Off Road. They can probably get you the 3" you want. from http://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/c98/2016__Toyota_Tacoma_Product.html

    king will build you a set that gives you the lift you want with no preload. I am preloaded at 2.5 on the ext king shocks and I am thinking about getting the special set built for a 3 inch lift. I dont like the preloaded lift and they MAX at 3 inches.

    I also have the deaver. Stick with 1 inch or so in the rear unless you plan to make major mods because youll need a brake line extension and carrier bearing drop kit as well.

    The front king coilovers are your best option. They can give your 3rd gen up to maybe 2" of lift without much preload and without riding harsh. Right out of the box with no adjustment they will raise the front of your truck about 1".
    The Camburg arms are also a great choice. I have the same front setup on my truck

    The deaver J66 springs are notorious for being soft, and not carrying any weigh.. You would be better off looking at something like a OME dakar or All pro leaf pack. Either of these would require a slightly longer shock.

    If you dont want to go off road and you only want a lift - I preferred the ride of my bilstien 6112 in the front with a 2 inch lift (preload)

    the king is stiff in a good way and handles the big bumps WAY better but the ride isnt as pleasant on city roads.

    < or = 2 inch lift and city driving I would save the money and go with an AAL + 6112/5160 or even 5100 from bilstein

    If you want something that is pretty good on road but AMAZING off road then you should go with the kings. They will custom build you one and I have a guy that can get you a good deal and there vendors here that should help on price too.

    They have a HD leaf that is designed for added weight that I run with my rtt.

    cant go wrong with a AAL / Deaver / Dakar
