Colorado is the broken windshield capital of America, and it's because of the crushed granite that gets added to the traction mix applied to roads in winter. You remove your rear flaps on a truck (especially a lifted truck), and you're kicking that shit all over those behind you, dinging their paint and sandblasting their glass. Why should your desire to achieve a look come at other's expense? Sorry, but IMO it's disrespectful and just one more example of the "fuck you it's all about me" attitude that has poisoned America.

^^That is a lot of assumptions considering you would also need to take into account

    • More aggressive tires have larger voids which in some cases will not allow for rock pick up at all.
    • Spinning rate of the tire
    • proximity of the following car or truck
    • Drag coefficiency of the following car (i.e. IF rocks are tossed higher by a truck to a following car there are also chances that the rock will pass over the car entirely)
My point being there so many variables involved that you cannot solely blame the lack of mudflap for the rock hitter another car. Who knows even with a mud flap the 6 inches of exposed tire at the very bottom could also kick up a rock into your grill.

And while you were so worried about those rocks you just got T boned by a driver as you ran a red light.

Function not look. And isn't that "fuck you it's all about me" attitude apply to you as well? You so worried about your windshield and paint job and me, me, me and my truck or car.

You sir are poisoned as well.

You're right. ...and its usually the little kids and/or ones that pretty much push the asshole envelope in everything they do.

Obvious to most would be that no one attributed all rocks hitting other vehicles soley to the deeds of the meatheads driving the trucks without mudflaps.

I guess the key would be to stay as far behind the idiots with the lifted trucks and no mud flaps, or close enough to catch them and put them over your knee should they cause damage to your vehicle due to their stupidity.

Respect is earned it is not a God given right. The least of your worries are my lack of mud flaps. There are so many other actions in this world that are "disrespectful" this is the least of it. It's a truck. it gets used, sometimes abused, and is primarily for work. So you get a few chips in the paint and nicks in the windshield. It's called wear and tear.

Nice in the absence of a decent counter reply you assume I am a child and that I am immature. How mature is that? I hope you stay far away from me this way I don't have to file assault charges if you were to "catch" me.

So for those who are all for mudflaps but have lifted your truck or put larger tires on your truck have you bothered to increase the length and width of your stock mud flaps so as to not disrespect other drivers as it so put?

Just something to think about before you go around calling people dicks, assholes, and meatheads.

I've got the factory running boards. The boards help keep some of the debris from coming up the sides but not all of it...when I go to the car wash they are caked underneath with debris. Still waiting for the new jungle fender flares to come out.

    OP -

In the process of retorting those who feel you are asshole, dick, or meathead if you do not run a mudflap I actually succeeded in hijacking your thread and not offering a solution. My apologizes.

First question is are you offroading your truck often like I am? If so no form of rigid mudflap will remain in tact on your truck for long. Some solutions offered will help but none are full proof and do not address the ultimate sin of tossing a rock. One alternative would be to build a custom set of quick release mudflaps that you can remove at the trailhead while you air down and put back on as you air up. However so far I have only seen this on 1st gen trucks and have not seen a solution similar to this for 2nd gens.

Trimming them up will help if you occasionally off road but again you risk the chance of tearing not only the mudflap off but the plastic fender as well. Plus since rocks tossed from tires are so harmful to paint and windshields once you trimmed them up you have increased the % chance of tossing a rock still.

One solution is a soft rubber mud flap that will bend and flex as you off road. But if you Google this most are ascetically displeasing unless you like Yosemite Sam. :D

I have found these and am considering them for my truck:

    http://www.jaos.com/preview.asp?catid=15

There is a universal set and they are both functional and ascetically decent. I have not pulled the trigger on them yet so I do not have any real world experience.

Now for those you that are about to leap... stop. I never said I was apposed to mud flaps I just really dislike the fact that a few jump in with accusations that not running mud flaps is disrespectful or makes you an asshole, dick, or meathead. If you offered positive reasons why one should have mudflaps or actually helped answer the OP's question in his search for an alternative I would not have really said anything. It's the assumptions on a persons personality that get me sometimes.

It seems you are one. One of those people who skyjack and put stacks coming out of their box. No mudflaps, beat up old truck.

I payed 35k for my truck and I have the decency to keep my mudflaps on because I am sure people worry about there vehicles and do the same thing. Are you one of those spoiled little boys who abuse everything they own?

I work hard for my money and so do others, if its the law follow it. And to the "selfishness" how is it being selfish if you obey the law but others don't on your expense? My pocket book isn't very thick and going for "look" isn't a very reasonable excuse when the cops pull you over. So before you post and think of the stupid stuff you are typing.

People are allowed to hold on to their own opinion and there are laws. Your last post is childish and I think you need to grow up.

So, I had recently removed mudflaps for the streamlined look and it turned out to be a decision I very quickly reversed. I went offroading and the wheels were constantly kicking up dirt and pebbles and shit on the underside. some of this debris also got inside the frame I think and it rattled along for several miles before going away.

Needless to say, I put the front mudflaps on immediately after getting home.

You paid $35k for a Tacoma? It better have come with a ton of accessories or have a diesel engine or something if you paid that much.
