Best phone mounts for Tacoma

FINALLY installed a real mount yesterday:

Panavise mount ($28, which mounts beside HVAC controls) + Pro-Clip Small-Medium Phone Holder ($35 with discounts). I custom cut some panhead machine screws to mount the Pro Clip to the Panavise . Its an expensive setup, but the holder should be reusable on future vehicles, and someone here will always be looking for Panavise mount. Works great with the iPhone 8 Plus and UAG case.

I was tired of the Maps not rotating 180 degrees during GPS use in the cup holder..and wasn't a fan of the cheap $5 vent mount dropping a $900 phone while the cord was connected.

Its unfortunate that proclip didn't make a good mount for the 05-15 Tacoma (left hand vent location is stupid, and next to the shift lever also isn't the best location.)

 

I wanted a clean look but practical and cheap so I added a USB charging port with a $15 macally phone holder. Works great.

 

Upgrade your radio; I keep my phone in my pocket, wireless android auto, and CarPlay are a thing now.

I have this one that goes in the CD slot. It requires you to put a small plate of metal (included) in the back of your phone case and via a magnet the phone stays on. I have had this for about a year in my truck and car, and it works great. Very good for position for using the phone as GPS and does not interfere with seeing the LCD. However, if you are out in the trails a good bump will probably knock your phone off.

Schosche magnet mounts are my fav so far. Just make sure whatever you put the metal magnet on(case or phone) is really clean or it will get pulled off by the magnet.

I got a couple ram balls iirc from the mfg, they are all over amizon though

 

I definitely want to do that in the near future. Just a matter of getting funds to get a newer unit. In the meantime I don't have GPS unless I use my phone. Therefore the need for something.

 

Got a Bestrix magnetic phone mount which of course isn't available anymore and tried it out in a few different places using the adhesive backing. When it fell off I'd try a new location w/new 3m. Finally settled on under the middle passenger vent which keeps it down out of the glare, up in my view for nav, and clear of all controls including not blocking any vents. When I did my anytime F/R camera mod I drilled through the radio bezel for a permanent attachment. Screw is hidden by hinge.

But $139 for a phone mount? That is a bit much.

 

others have a similar setup woth the ram mount...non permanent solution if you want to be able to make the truck stock again.

No, you must have a newer version? Mine is just a magnet. And I have an iPhone 6s so it has to charge plugged in

No. It stays open.

 

How did you get the Ram ball to attach to the Grey radio surround? Adhesive? Hardware?
