I have the Tech Deck. It is rock solid.

I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but that Dashtop Multi Mount looks like it was made from parts out of an erector set.

Yeah, the tech deck looks sharp but a little intrusive into the cabin. The other one is just a prototype in the picture, polished and powder coated I’m hoping it’ll be sleek and functional.

Agreed but for me in particular, I have my phone for Calls, text, and I also use my phone for Spotify like 99% of the time...While the GPS / Maps / Directions on the Google phone are unmatched, I just don't want to have to cycle between the tasks constantly, consume battery, overheat the phone etc....and I realize I can charge my phone in the truck of course, but with a phone running spotify and NAV at the same time, screen is now on full time, it will barely charge by the time I get to my destination..then not to mention notifications popping up and the phone overheating.

I just want my phone to do phone stuff.

I'm in a 2019 so my goal one day is either upgrade to a MY with Android auto or upgrade the entire console that's compatible with Android Auto.

Ballsout off-road mounts ftw. Has to find a clean way to mount the ham radio and phone. I considered the tech deck but it was a bit more obtrusive than I liked. To each their own!

Too bad they won’t respond to their thread anymore and their website has been taken down. Was going to go that route but moved on. Just ordered a Tech Deck.

I just received an Exshow cell phone holder from Amazon. Puts the phone exactly where I need it and doesn’t block vision, vents or the cd slot. Yes, I still use cd’s until one of my daughters shows me how to get flac F62806E6-7224-40F6-B9FC-3056EEAD5C69.jpg 1DDED4FF-E7AC-427D-8ABC-3AB65E00E10A.jpg files of my music onto a thumb drive.

@Icarus II Any issues with the phone vibrating being in the position it’s in? Looks like the phone end of the mount could be a problem. Is that some sort of foam just behind the mount?

Recently made my own version of the tech deck to mount ram ball to. Ones for my cellphone and the other for my garmin gps communicator. I’ve tried so many cheap mounts with little luck.

Steelie works great for me. I have one in the work pick up, tow rig, excavator and the Tacoma came with two. The only time I've had the phone fall off was in the excavator but you have to hit pretty hard to make it happen. It doesn't exactly have the smoothest suspension. Plus the magnet on the back is super handy. It makes any ferrous metal a place to hold your phone.

    Jeff b,

I just used 4 machine screws, 2 each side right into the plastic surround. Worked great and super ridged. Only thing I would change is I’d make the platform a bit larger to fit more balls.

Inside the center console works for me unless Im navigating out in the woods.
Bluetooth handles any voice calls I need to take and music playback just fine from in there.

For navigating the woods/open deserted highway driving, I started out with one of these mounted permanently to a steel plate lower right of the steering wheel so it came up right of the wheel just below the dash, dog took care of that
    Screenshot_20200131-011956.jpg

    Moved on to this style
Love it so much I added a second to hold the dual color light bar remote.

    Screenshot_20200131-011143_Amazon Shopping.jpg

I just cant have anything sticking out of the dash or cupholder or ANYWHERE in the cab.
This dog got so big hes the size of a baby rhino.
Had to go to a rear mounted usb on the dash unit.
Cords, flash drives, phone mounts,,, forget about it.
    Wont last.

But these...work great, did have to permanently mount it with some epoxy/superglue after the summer heat compromised the stock 3m adhesive on back of the mounts.
Works so good one went on the quad too

One of these handles the gnarly stuff on the quad.
    Locks the phone in solid!
Im sure the base could be modified or it comes with a different base maybe? for a truck mount.
    Good little unit

In California, I believe the current law states your phone must be in a mount. The thinking being if it’s mounted it’s less likely to end up in your hands.

It’s not working. I spend a great deal of time driving. I’d say at least 70% of all drivers have their face in their phone in their hands.

My thinking is these people have absolute disregard to anything except their own selfish needs taking my and those around my life in their carelessness. So when the light turns green, they are invisible to me, it’s ok if I drive on top of them.

I like the $1000, 14 days walking plan. My opinion, it should be first offense, $100, and a 8 hour re-education class. Second offense, $500, and a 5 day impound. Third offense, 30 day impound, a fine of half the vehicles value being driven at the time to be paid at the end of the impound period prior to releasing said vehicle back to the driver. Forth offense, forfeiture of the vehicle being driven at the time, 6 months in jail, 1 year suspended license upon release from jail, forfeiture of the right to own, borrow, or touch a cellphone.

Just saw a chick the other day had the suction cup type mount mounted to her windshield and her fone DEAD center in front of her, talking into it.

The foam is 1/2” pipe insulation that I added. The flex arm is very stiff. I got the bends to conform to the curves of the dash and there was a little vibration. The foam dampens all of that. I have an iPhone 7 with a lifeproof case that’s got a little heft and the holder works great.

Sorry for resurrecting an old post, but how do you like the cup holder mount? I have a vent mount but it shakes too much and I have to have it on the passenger vent so that it doesn’t block the radio. Just need it for when I use Waze on my phone. Does it block any of the controls?

Before I switched to a Nato magnetic (non vent type) mount, the cup holder mount worked fine for me and did not block any controls. If anthing it can interfere with the shifter, but a simple adjustment will fix that. I liked the cup holder mount, but decided to reclaim that area so I could see the monitor for the rear facing camera while hauling my dirt bikes on the trailer. As for the GPS, I did the A-Pillar mount.

The cup mount is simple, inexpensive and removable.
