Best place to run a cb antenna through the firewall

Where is the cleanest yet simplest place to run a RG58 coax cb antenna through the firewall of a ‘19 TRD OR for passenger side hood mounting? I see 3 possible places in this pic but under dash access is limited at best. Below this area is what looks to be a ac drain hose with excellent access and seemingly close to zero risk of decreased flow. I don’t know about potential wear but a test fit did not show any signs of scraping so I’ll assume there’s a rubber grommet in place.

 

While you’re in there extend the drain hose so it doesn’t drip on the frame anymore. It’s one of those mods.

 

I’d run it through the driver side hole and across the rear of the engine bay. It’s easy to push wires through the driver side boot. Just use a razor to Slice a hole.

Not a bad idea but I’m saving that hole for wiring.

Will do man. My hood mount should arrive today then I need to figure out how to install the coax connection to the MNO antenna lead. Hard wire will come later. Gonna try some of those solder-less heat shrink wire connectors.

 

Just got my Victory OR antenna mount and ordered a Blue Sea fuse box, wire, fuses, heat shrink connectors, switches, Cali plate and dummy plug. Too bad I’m now feeling the effects of a busy day and don’t have the energy or stability left to do anything about it. Stupid concussion. Maybe tomorrow after the vet appointment. I can tell you that my radio placement is rad and there’s no leg encroachment. Pics and a build thread to follow in due time. Thanx everyone! I dig the community here.

 

I used that top left plug on my 2005, worst part was reaching up inside and getting it..
I had to open it a bit because I had the PL59 going through there. Grommet went back on after with the middle cut out.

 

I was close but then I was bathed in the light from the ac drain hole and ended up basking in it. I’ll save that one for something else down the road.

 

Put it through where it suits your application. Drill to suit, install a

125pc Rubber Grommet Assorted Set for Automotive/Plumbing/Piano Repair

grommet, and back up with some black silicone (double check the other side before you drill).

After all your help, I’m ready to give a little preview of the installed radio. Keep in mind it’s not yet finalized but I have a solid start, just have to tackle the

PL259/RG58 soldering and mount/wire the Blue Sea fuse box when it arrives.

My first impression is positive. Unit is well placed with clear audio, zero leg interference and a easy to reach mic placement.


Plenty of room with a size 9 Sorel slipper centered on the go button.


Think I’ll dig the magnetic mic mount. Keeping everything tucked in and tidy.




Gotta tweak the antenna mount for a slight angle correction but otherwise I’m pretty stoked.
