Due to life circumstances and finances it unfortunately makes most sense for me to sell my truck. I'm curious what people's experience with various different selling media are. I'm looking mostly at Bring a Trailer to auction it, based on what I've seen from similar Tacomas in their past auctions it looks like it has the highest upside. However when I reached out to them they wouldn't accept a reserve price since it has over 200,000 miles.

    As for details:

3.4L 5VZ-FE 4x4 SR5 MT, manual j-shift for 4x4 shift, 230k miles. Frame is solid with a reinforcement weld on the rear driver's side near the wheel which was done by the previous owner. I also had to get the rear shock mount re-welded this spring as that had detached.

I'm the 4th owner, previous 3 all lived in NC and since I've owned it the truck has been street parked in NC, garage parked in NM over winter '21, off-road parked in IL during summer '22, garage parked in IL during winter '23, and street parked in IL from June until now. About to take it off the road again before the salt hits the streets and sell it.

Since owning I've done a decent bit of maintenance (all OEM parts, mix of shop and home garage work):
Replaced rear axle seals and wheel bearings @~215k miles
Replaced front lower ball joints @ ~215k miles
Replaced water pump & all belts @ ~215k miles
Replaced valve cover gasket and all associated parts (spark plug wiring harness & coil packs, spark plugs, half moon seals, camshaft plugs, air intake plenum gaskets, throttle bottle assembly) @230k miles
    Replaced fuel injectors @230k miles

I have paperwork for all parts purchased and paperwork for all work done at shops. I haven't touched transmission at all. Currently everything functions except for cruise control.

I purchased the truck off an eBay auction. Tried to sell it last fall on FB marketplace but had no real offers (most was $4.5k on a 9k asking price).

Not sure if I want to do Bring a Trailer, eBay, craigslist, FB marketplace, or a different marketplace but curious if anyone has any experience or strong opinions on this from selling in the post COVID era used market

I'd probably start with CL and FB MP first. Better local results I would imagine. GL with selling the taco.

BaT isn't really the place for quarter million mile, mass produced pickup trucks.

    $0.02

Talk to a local broker, the bigger the better. They will probably list it for free, collect bids for you, and report back with the highest bidder. From there it’s all up to you if you want to take the deal. If so, the broker buys it from you and then sells it to their customer.

I did this to sell my 2016 Impreza. I walked across the street and immediately deposited the check. Easy peasy.

CL and FB and here in the classified section are all good options. Bring a trailer is really only for rare cars so they won't take anything they consider common or not valuable enough.

Here's the one year auction data for 1st Gens on bat.

The lowest price, most recent sale went for $11K with 180K miles, and I'd say it was pretty clean topside, inside and down under.

How does yours compare? Knowing that the bidder probably is going to base their bet solely on the pictures that you provide. If your underside isn't that clean or at least very close to it, then you have no real shot of getting anything close to that number on that site.

Definitely post it here and on local sites. That's usually enough. There's also usually an off road enthusiast fb group near you, those can be good for selling its allowed

Completely understand what people are saying about BaT, that was my impression but looking at the completed auctions for similar trucks is what made me think it might be worthwhile. I'm hoping to get at least 5 figures for it but will adjust accordingly if that seems to much for the current market.

@ace_10 I was looking at the same plot but past 5 years and it looks like 192 sold and the bottom end of the range is pretty much the same as in your plot.

I can post some pictures from earlier this year tonight (currently driving out to do a quick repair on my other Toyota before driving for a family wedding this week). Won't be able to post photos more recent than then until next week but I'd say my underside is the same as the one you posted. Definitely nothing as pristine as the one that's up for auction now but also no surface rust and no flaking on mine.

I've been maintaining it as if I'd own it for life, and that was the original plan, but life has its own designs and selling can meaningfully accelerate my home ownership trajectory
