    poking around i found that my inner pad was thinner than my outer pad. dig some digging today and found some nasty nastienss. looks like someone painted the caliper red, then stripped it and the paint melted to the boots. the outer i took out the pads to see how far they would go, top outer is frozen, lower outer is slow, inners are okay.

    i was planning on getting new pads and coated rotors soon anyway, but now i need to replcace a caliper (probably both. i didn't feel like inspecting the other side.)

    who makes the best and cheapest reman?

    locally there are;
    napa - $87.85
    autozone - $83.99
    advance - $84.99
    oreilleys - $83.99

    i just had to have a steering knuckle replaced because of a hit and run, so i'm trying to get off as cheap as possible here (hehe). what's your vote for best reman caliper?

    Haven't shopped calipers yet, but in my experience, many of the parts available at Advance, AZ; O'Reilley's have VERY similar part numbers. That suggests to me they are the same part made by the same company. I find part numbers for NAPA parts to be different from the other 3 in many cases.

    Which is better? Who knows. In all probability they are are likely reman'd in China, so quality would likely be the same.

    There are countless WEB sites that sell Toyota parts at a discount. Quite a few of them sell on Ebay as well. Get the OEM part number and go to ebay. Key it in. See what you come up with.

    One place you can get the OEM part number is:

    http://www.partsouq.com - provide VIN and start searching away at the various major sections that pop up.

    I would also look at what's available at -> http://www.rockauto.com

    Next question, has anyone tried the towing brake upgrade from Rick auto? I don't really care for the red calipers but I never look at them anyway. It looks like a very attractive kit and the price is close to what I'll get with remans, pads, rotors, and hardware from everyone else.

    stock calipers. they would've been fine, but the previous owner tried some kind of fuckery that ruined the seals. seals have been bad probably longer than i've owned it so i'm going to skip the rebuild and slap on some new ones.

    i'm looking on there and they only have one caliper. i want to do both, so i plan on getting the towing upgrade package with new shoes and rotors.

    I've always done remans from rockauto. I like centric brake parts
