So 1100 miles ago you liked your crappy house and weren’t thinking about your kids? hmmmm! Just curious.

People who buy used Tacomas often can't get financing on a New one but are able to finance a used one. When you want a Tacoma but can't get financing on a new one you settle for an overpriced used one. Same is true for Wranglers, I bought a new 2015, drove it for 10 months, and only lost $800. It eventually sold used for more than I paid new. Crazy.

The Tacoma resale values seem to be holdi g strong still.

The new JL wranglers are suffering though due to oversupply and the gladiator. Hopong increased supply of the Tacoma doesn't bring the same fate.

im in Washington state and it seems like I see about the same thing for resale as you. Tacoma’s, 4runners and Newer Subaru’s hold value really well.

I was talking with a coworker about wanting to buy a high quality recliner, but they're $X,XXX. Without a pause he said just wait until they have a 0% financing deal.

If I can't pay cash for this i'm not having it

I got over 70% for my 16 after owning it 4 years and I paid too much and sold it too cheap. 60% seems low to me.

that they are. But add in some low financing rates for a new truck and the starting point at less than a $2,000 difference I wouldn’t think you would get them down enough to make it worth while. At least to me. Some people might view a few thousand dollar difference as a deal breaker.

Those 0% financing deals can be beneficial if you play it right. Say you pay 1,000 for something cash, that money is gone right at the point of purchase. If you pay 1,000 for something over 10 months (to keep the numbers rounded in this example) and you pay 100 per month, you would earn interest on 900 after month one, then on 800 after month two, etc. In this example the interest is minor and not really worth it, but given the cost and terms, you can be better off financing something at 0% than putting out the funds right at the beginning.

Yep, go talk with any accountant, investor, business, etc and they will always say they want to keep their money in their account as long as they can. I pay cash for everything I buy (I paid cash for my cabin, my cars, etc). However, if someone is willing to give me free money, I'll take it, then take my money I had for that purchase, setup an account and make the payments from that account over the term of the free money and at the end, walk away with more than I would have had if I had just paid cash upfront. This also means at any given time I can 100% pay off anything I have outstanding. I don't play the borrow at a low interest, invest, make a little extra over the interest, etc game. I do everything in my power to make sure lenders don't make a dime off me. I also still make the payments I would have had to myself. This makes it easy to continually have a car fund, etc. However, I know most people aren't this way and I know most people finance (doesn't matter what the rate is) because they don't have the discipline to save and be able to pay upfront. So I mostly agree with (kind of hurts to say it :p) @Itchyfeet

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.

Itchyfeet, Good points, I agree. That's why I leased my 2019. I know what this truck is going to cost me. I've paid cash for my last 4 Tacomas. Actually sold my three 1st gens for what I paid for them or more after driving them for a few years. My 2nd gen, not so good. And looking at the numbers, similar to the ones above, I figured 3rd gens will take a hit in coming years. I may be wrong. Then I'll just buy it out and private sell it.

Out of curiosity, is there a particular tacoma that holds value better than others in the south east/NC region?

Like if you were getting a new tacoma and wanted to maximise resale value, should it be 4x4 or 4x2? A particular color? DCLB or DCSB etc?

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear (extended) shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier bearing drop kit, Aluminum 1/4" skids (engine to transfer). Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.

All you're going to get are opinions since none of us can see the future. Historically these trucks have depreciated much slower than the competition and the pandemic has driven up used Tacoma prices. With that being said I do feel many buyers and potential buyers immediately weed out 4x2 trucks (just my observation and personal opinion.) So for my money I'd buy a 4x4 the rest is up to you and the deal you can locate.
