How long have you had yours, any leaking? When you say open the holes, are you drilling your own or are there predrilled holes under the trim? Sorry, it's a fairly new to me truck.

There are pre drilled holes covered by a tape like material under the trim. And I’ve had mine since around December. I tried a few others but the prinsu checked off all the boxes I wanted. That’s why I said buy once cry once.

Wow, that's much easier than I thought. I had read a bunch about roof racks you have to drill holes for, and that is what had turned me off to self install. Do you have a recommended install video?

There’s a ton on YouTube just search prinsu install. There’s one a few pages back on here.

    Sadly, not much.
I have the Frontrunner Rack Slimline Pro II cabrack - love it. I have also installed Yakima tracks and bars on my Leer Canopy. With that setup, my carry options are pretty good: surfboards, Thule cargo box, canoe, dining room table, you get the idea.

The frontrunner install was pretty straightforward. Had a helper though as not to scratch the roof. Didn't take too long. The longest part was cutting the weatherstripping to size, and reinstalling around the roof rack.

    Nice setup.

I was considering getting a single bed rack to carry my canoe (in conjunction with my Rhino Roof rack). I went to my cap/truck accessory guy. He advised not strapping canoe down to the bed and the cab as the bed flexes and moves a lot and that could put undue stress on the roof rack and roof. I carry my canoe off-road a lot...which would potentially exacerbate the issue.

I think many run a setup like yours and most probably don't have issues.

Just sharing what I was told.

It is absolutely an issue for this 16ft canoe. I am not sure how big of an issue, but it is one. I have not taken the canoe off road while tied down this way on this truck. My previous truck, I took the canoe from Seattle to Denali, AK with 1000 miles off road, and it was not an issue because I just had strapped to canopy rack. With the raised canopy, and the double cab - I am in a bit of a bind. I can't really strap to just the front runner, and if I strap to just canopy rack, I would have to tie front down to ensure good connection. I will test a couple variations this summer.
I am also worried about the stress it puts on the 100+ year old cedar canoe!

No point in having a canoe if you cant drive it down a dirt road to a scenic mountain lake!

When I had a cap (mid rise Leer 180) and now with my Rhino Rack (Bar style) on my double cab, I've only strapped my 15' canoe to the bars. Never used a bow or stern strap. I've logged thousands off off-road miles like that and it's never budged.

How far off the back was the canoe hanging? Do you have any photos?

I’m confused by this thread. Title asks for the best roof rack. First post says he wants an affordable rack. Which is it?

Re install - I used a healthy dose of silicone - and Teflon tape on the screws = no leaks.

My towers look taller than yours. Hopefully your bow won't be hitting your cab rack.

True - two very questions. I was able to find my frontrunner rack used for $320, which was quite a discount. A young man had just gotten a DUI, and his dad was making him sell his truck and extras. I felt kind of bad, his dad was at the sale and just giving him the business in front of me.

But most affordable new, may be the OEM style. I've seen on Amazon for a few hundred bucks.

I bought the deceptively labeled made in China knockoff OEM for 199 delivered on eBay.

I picked up one of the Hooke Road ones about a month ago. I wouldn’t say it’s the best out there, but for $329 Canadian it seems really well built and solid. I’m happy with it so far. Holds my canoe on great.AFA8EE5C-E47D-48D6-AB18-0CC3C03A3CC5.jpg
