    Yep an engine is basically gas powered air pump so the more air you can stuff in then push out efficiently you'll make more hp !!

    You can also have multiple sets of tires for whatever you want to do. For my mudding Ford, I have highway tires and comp cut Boggers. For my Taco, I have Duratracs on TRD fake beadlock wheels for everyday driving, Toyos on 1st gen aluminum wheels for playing in the mud, and studded snow tires on TRD OR wheels for if the weatherman predicts ice. This way, if I bonk a rock or curb, I haven't destroyed a $225 TRD wheel.

    Gear that shit down. Look at the 4.88 or 5.13 (not sure if that gear is available for the tacoma) gears.. My tacoma was the same way with much smaller tires than yours. She had no grunt for hills or larger obstacles. I now have a jeep that had the same issue and geared down to 4.88 and its a monster, especially in 4lo. I did have to sacrifice some fuel efficiency because at 75mph I am now running barely over 3k rpms.. so its no longer a highway vehicle if im traveling.

    Supercharging the 2.7 is another option but that does put some significant strain on the internals, especially if you have a heavy foot. Maybe im wrong.. its been a few years since ive owned a tacoma.

    My old Jeep a 68 M38A1 had a Buick V6 ,GM465 1 ton 4spd with 6 54:1 first gear , Dana 18 t/case with 3.50:1gearing and axles with 5.38gears and also had a Warn overdrive with 15%reduction

    Overall gearing was 128.1:1 in low range and going down hills if I wasn't touching the throttle it wouldn't move . In 1rst gear It was 3k rpm at 10mph

    I could be wrong, but I believe the 3RZ and the 2TR both are forged internals. Along with the cast iron blocks. So boost should be fine

    I'm running a TRD supercharger on my 3RZ either 4.5 psi or 8.5 psi and just running big "pink" Supra injectors and have had no problems in the 14 years the supercharger has been on my truck . Current mileage is 69k miles

    Cool cool like I said. It’s been a while since I’ve owned a taco so I’m not super up to date

    Please do take a little peek at the torque curve from dyno charts and not just the point referenced by the spec. This 2.7, while it does make marginally higher torque at about 3800, makes a very flat and very even torque all the way from about 1500-5500 rpm. THIS ENGINE LOVES TO RUN AT 2K!

    This is better info than the spec for sure! The graph deviates from the spec heavily look at peak torque RPM compared to spec. It is still a little more happy with more RPM meaning that a gear change still is complimentary wouldn't you agree?

    A few things;
    1) That chart actually compares a stock with a minor modification. The BLUE line is stock.
    2) A gear change will always increase torque in a linear manner. This is a separate point however. The main thing to keep in mind is that you don't need to wind the engine out for the sake of getting more torque in the same gear. You can go slower and get nearly the same torque.
    3) That dyno chart is also wheel dyno, whereas spec is crank dyno.

    Regear will help a ton. I have the same truck, 488’s were a huge change. I have lightweight and smaller tires than you so it won't be quite as nice, but by far the best upgrade I’ve done drivability wise.
