yes, i did a search but didnt really find anything in specifics i was lookin for. so if it is a duplicate then the mods can just delete this thread or stick it to another one...

anywho, im pretty sure someone has tried to break into my truck thru the slidin back glass & tore up my seal w/in the past 2 weeks. i travel alot for my job so i have to stay at hotels througout AR, LA, & MS.

What i am wantin to know is your opinions/advise/links on the following questions:

    • what is the best car alarm out there?
    • how long of a range does it have?
    • how reliable is it?
    • pros/cons of the one you have had experience with
    • installation time frame - ease of installation
i prefer the ones with longer range bc if im gonna be anywhere it will be within a fairly decent range of where i leave my truck, but peace of mind that it will reach long distances is nice too.

this link i found on a thread a guy had used as a promo bc he was a dealer and gave it good rep (brother of viper alarm)

    Thanks in advance!!

I have a Viper 5901 (alarm and remote start) on my Acura TL Type S. It gives a visual representation of all of the sensors and I can even check the inside temperature. The range is up to a mile but I haven't tried it yet.

this one i was quoted today at $649 + tax (which i think is way too high)

it has the 1 mile radius. and the quote included a 2nd battery option that if someone were to cut the wiring on the main alarm the 2ndary one would keep goin. they also included a magnetic strip to put on the back slidin glass window.

how hard is it to install one of these on yur own?

i would actually rather have a legit company install it & have them warranty everything

I have had Vipers in my last 4-5 vehicles. I obviously like them a lot. However, I do not get the high-end versions that you are looking for.

I have the Viper 1002 love it to death. Has awesome range with new batteries I got 100yds no problem. It has kept my car safe a couple of times and even a friend couldn't take it with the keys. It is very reliable never had a problem with it. Only bad thing is that the plastic for the romotes is kind soft and is wearing away after only like a 1.5 years and the remote battery is getting weaker. I took it somewhere to be instaled too 3hr and like $100. If you buy it off amazon or ebay it is much cheaper.

didnt know they were the high end versions. i just want one that has the 1mile range, & a remote that will tell me which part of the vehicle is gettin messed with & what is bein done to it.

i would rather pay for somethin that will give me more peace of mind when i travel everywhere. i dont trust anyone anywhere

The 1 mile range systems cost more. The systems that show the different parts of the vehicle cost more. In comparison to the versions I buy these are pretty high-end. Those systems are very nice though. If that is what you need than go for it. I mostly have mine to protect it overnight while sitting in my driveway. I don't need more than 100 yds of range. I think the bright blinking led in the car at night, warning people it is there, does more to deter vandalism than anything.

Me too that light and sticker ase pretty powerful. Worst case the shock sensor will feel anything and let you know.

a agree on the light blinkin to deter peeps, but it will give me more peace of mind knowin more details as to what exactly is goin on when somethin does happen. like i said before, the only times im really gonna need more than the 100yd radius is when i go traveling for my job & stay at hotels. sometimes i stay at casinos or nicer-end hotels that u park a good ways from where yur room is. i dont really leave the more valuable stuff in there, but there's always the big speaker box, amp, HU that stays behind that is what most assholes are after. i dont ever usually leave my gun or my gps in there.
