Mostly personal preference. I prefer a little more rubber than rim so 16 for me.

33 with 17's is the perfect match, in my opinion. Great combination

Depends, are you going to do much off roading? IMO 17's look good but you will have more protection with a 16'.

Note the TRD Off Road trucks come with 16's and the TRD Sports come with 17's.

I'm also guessing the tires will be a little cheaper if you go with a 16' (just a guess)

If you really can't decide figure out which tire you are going to get and go to a local tire shop and find out what size is more common or post up on here.

What about rim width...? That has to factor in there as well eh?

I just got 33's with 18's in my opinion 17s or even 16s are way way way to small, and with my offset and backsacing i havent had much rubbing or caliper problems

17" 8-9" width 4.5" back spacing or as close to that as possible for back spacing. If you get the same metric tire size the 17" rim is an inch bigger tire vs 16", you wont have ANY caliper fit issues, and you will have a better selection of tires and rims to choose from.

Keep in mind, most tires all things similar except for wheels size, are usually 20% more for a 17in wheel than the 16.

    16x8 4.5 bs 0 offset

ideally 15x8 would be the best but it takes work to make them fit on a 2nd gen

why would you want to spend more in wheels up front and tires for the rest of owning? personally i like to save money and thankfully my taste allows me to

I have a TRD Sport, and I do go offroad sometimes. Somone told me i should get 1.25 inch spidertrax wheel spacers to fit the 285s?
