I'm looking at getting new wheels for my 2021 Tacoma SR that's stock (no lift or level) but don't know which route to go.

If anyone has any recommendations for both wheel size and lift/level options, I'd greatly appreciate them. Pictures would be awesome too.

    Thanks in advance!

What are you trying to accomplish? Can’t really provide input without knowing what you want the change to achieve.

Looking to get bigger wheels. Initially was interested in 18’s but was told I’d need to lift it some. Was curious if most people go that route or just stick with 17’s?

Wheel size won’t change fitment. Tire size changes that. You can have a tire that is the same overall height as stock but with a larger wheel inside it.

Regardless, lift won’t be what clears larger tires. Making room in the wheel wells is what does that.

Your stock tire size on an SR should be 245/75R16 which is a 31x9.5” tire on a 16” wheel. You can get an equivalently sized tire on a 17” wheel by choosing 245/70R17. There isn’t an equivalent for 18” in that size, if there was it would be 245/65R18.

You can also step up to 265s which will widen the tire a bit and you can step up by an inch. So for stock height 265s, you can use 265/70R16, 265/65R17, or 265/60R18. If you want tires that are taller than stock, then 265/75R16, 265/70R17, or 265/65R18 are the options that will fit.

If you get wide aftermarket wheels like 18x9s or something like that and something that has offset of 0 or more, chances are high that most tires you install are going to rub somewhere. Stock dimensioned wheels will always fit best because they were designed for the vehicle.

Wow thank you for all that great information that’s really helpful. Based off what you said would a 17x8.5 rim with a 265/70R17 tire cause any rubbing? And the offset is +18

8.5 is a bit wide, so maybe. The offset being +18 might make it not an issue. If it was -18 it would pretty much be a guarantee to rub.
