best size upgrade on a 17 inch rim?

275/70/17 in a load range C. do not go with a heavier tire, mpg will suffer greatly.

No such thing. Are you going to lift it? If not, 265/70R17. If you are and are willing to cut 285/70R17. If lifting and not wanting to cut 275/70R17.

Sorry, just saw you have a 3" lift. Read other threads. Search "285/70R17" and see what trimming I'm talking about.

 

I'm running 265/70/17 and have little rubbing on the front mudflap. No mudflap and no rubbing.

With the 275/70/17 you would probably have to remove the mudflap to avoid rubbing so with 275/75/17 you'll maybe have to do some trimming.

OZ-T runs 275/70's with no issues. He's on 885's (no top plates) and Dakars. IIRC

I picked up a set of BFG 275/70 but I am waiting on wheels for them. They are heavy but cooper and hancook make them in a load range C. Those will probably be my next depending on how the BFG's are.

Also 1stacoma runs the BFG 275/70
