I just lifted my 2018 SR5 with a rough country 3 inch lift. I'm still running stock wheels as of now but want to change that without any rubbing. I've read many places that 285/70/17's will fit just fine. Anyone have experience with this or can recommend another thread? If you have pictures, I'd love to see them with your wheel/tire combo information!

    Get ready for the :crapstorm:

There have been many threads on this subject. Using the search function on this site or google will be your best bet

    edit:
    welcom to TW BTW
    try keywords like 33’s on a 3rd gen, 285’s on a third gen, 255’s, skinny 33’s
If using google add “site:tacomaworld.com” if you wish to keep it limited to TW

You're going to get a lot of recommendations to utilize the search function. From what I've gathered the tire size specified fitting is going to directly relate to the wheel specs and alignment you can achieve. Good luck!

A 17 inch rim will have more options for tires than a 16. Not sure if that’s what you’re asking

17 inch wheels are the best size to go with. You'll have the most tire options. 285/70/17's are the best tire to go with in my opinion, but you'll need to do a cab mount chop, and a regear, but even stock you should do a regear so that's a bit of a moot point. So add in $2500 ish for regear to 5.29's, and probably a few hundred for a cab mount chop. This is assuming you already have a lift. All in I'm about $10k into my suspension. $5500 lift kit (I installed), $2500 for gears installed, and then miscellaneous. $2000 for wheels and tires.

15 inch is ideal for offroad (larger sidewalls, less chance of bending the rim, however wont clear the calipers on 3rd gen..)
16inch limits tire sizes that are available (tire manufacturers only make certain sizes in a 16" truck tire), most steel rims in 16's do not clear calipers due to design most I've seen for a 16" rim are 33" 255/85/16's...
17inch while not giving a HUGE sidewall it is sufficient, and gives you an ample tire selection, and can go from stock size tires all the way up to a 40"
18 sidewall is small on anything smaller than a 33, and not recommended to go any bigger unless you are a mall crawler, you lose sidewall height, and airing down has less effect...

16” if you want to be an actual or just look like a real off roader. Everything else is for photos.

They will rub, the question is, how much and are you ok with that.

For every person with “X” configuration that say they have no rubbing, there are dozens that do. Anyone who says they don’t rub take with a grain of salt.

OEM wheels are the best size and backspacing.
