    Exactly.

The number of cars on the road that can hold 5-9 people and where the driver is the only occupant is a high percentage in my area.

I had a pickup truck when I was first starting out that I used for work, but it isn't necessary day to day anymore.

I bought another pickup when I bought a house, a "fixer upper" and that truck was necessary.

The house is mostly done, but I prefer having a vehicle that can do dirty work from time to time.

It's a tool, and like many other tools, it doesn't get used all the time, but when you need to use it, you're glad to have it.

And the Gladiator looks interesting, but why no 6' bed option? Sad...

Not trying to depend the Ridgeline here, but realistically it probably suits a lot of people’s need for a truck for the average home owner. And I think the new one is a much nicer vehicle than the previous style of them. I’m also disappointed in no 6ft bed option, or other cab options for the Gladiator, I love my Taco but an extended cab Gladiator with a 6ft box would have been the only other truck I would have considered.

This really nails it for me. My poor old F-150 was having more and more frequent issues, so I drove all the available midsize trucks, plus a wrangler (no gladiator on lots yet.) They are all very nice. There’s no doubt that the Colorado was more comfortable, or that the Ranger felt more gutsy. But none of them excited me even 1/10th as much as the Tacoma. I’d never owned or looked at Toyota’s before, but the second I sat in what ended up becoming mine I knew it was the one.

The automotive journalists all seemed to hate it, but what can you do? Music critics all hated Black Sabbath. The sales and community don’t lie, the Tacoma just inspires more excitement in more people than the other midsizes.

I’m sure the Gladiator will be a killer truck, great for off roading and with the coming diesel likely a great little puller for small boats and trailers. I’m also sure it’ll have a laundry list of recalls like most modern FCA products. I don’t predict it’ll come close to Tacoma sales numbers, but with those prices it doesn’t need to. People have been predicting each new midsize truck as a Tacoma killer, and it just isn’t going to happen.

Beauty is clearly in the eye of the beholder.

But all I see here is the shape of a slipper...
