Best source for OE brake pads and shoes?

Who has the best price for OE pads and shoes these days? It's been a while since I needed anything so not sure of the best place to look.

 

I used McGeorge for both of them. Even got OE rotors there. I tried aftermarket and they were all junk. Back to OE for everything.

 

Pretty sure ADVICS was the OE supplier.
You can save a little money going that route.

 

After a lot of research (can't recall the details though), I used Advic pads for my latest brake maintenance job in 2022. Got them from Advance Auto PN N10101456304ADV for $61.53 inclucing shipping for both wheels.

I ended up getting some Hawk HPS pads from Stillen for $110 with free shipping. They are normally about $140. I haven't used them on a Taco but I have on a few much faster vehicles. I am interested to see how they do.

Akebono ACT436 as "OEM". They are an OE supplier to Toyota, but not sure if they were the original factory option for the 1st gen. They're great brake pads though. I used to burn through whatever the auto parts stores sold me and just made a habit of replacing them every year (lots of mountain driving). The Akebono's are lasting considerably longer.

 

I have about 100 miles on the Akebonos, they are what I am replacing. I am a fan of them on most cars but they seem to lack some bite here.

 

Interesting. Good data point. I just looked when I installed them, and it was Feb 2021, and I haven't experienced a lack of bite.

Don't get me wrong, they are a good pad and they are super gentle on rotors, but I was looking for something a bit more aggressive. I had the Akebonos sitting around for a while so used them, and they are fine, I just want a bit more bite and I have always had great results with Hawk pads. I will certainly report back!

 

I think so but I am not familiar enough with 4runner gens to say for sure.

 

Are you sure you have the rear correctly portioned.......its seems odd its that perceivable....


we seen in that earlier thread that over depending on front's causes a lot of stress on that old master.......possibly causing it to fail...

 

I am sure. I am just picky about pads.

 

I wanted to elaborate a bit on this. My background is in sports cars and about a decade ago I had an e36 M3 (two actually, one was more for track days) that was fully prepped for the STU AutoX class and I had about 4 sets of pads for it. I usually switched to Akebono "euro ceramics" if it was going to be driven on the street and they were fine. But the difference between them and the other pads I had of various compound was crazy. But they ate rotors and it sounded like a bus when stopping slowly. I always found the Hawk HPS to be a nice compromise....but unfortunately I just found out they are NLA for these trucks. So, probably just gonna stick with the Akebonos.

 

You know the railroad uses sand dispensers to increase friction....

 

I know you mentioned OE pads but just wanted to put it out there if anyone was interested in affordable aftermarket, I'm pretty happy with the R1 Concepts on Amazon. I got the front pads and rotors for under $100.
