Wow.. you seriously are suggesting Focal components for someone who is running deck power? Focal makes some of the most power hungry components you can buy and the ones you suggested are no exception. 320 watts per set isn't exactly going to fit the bill here.

Relax dude. I haven't messed with a car stereo in 10 years. Was I ignoring the people who have tons of experience and make audio decisions based off imagined misconceptions? No. I asked a question and got some good answers. Chill the fuck out...

I've got a '10 Sport DCSB, after a few weeks of owning it, I switched out the front door and back speakers with some mid-grade Pioneer 3-ways, it was a little bit louder and cleaner, but with the stock head unit limited on it's potential. So, I splurged and got a double-din Kenwood head unit with a tad bit more power for the speakers, it made it sound a whole lot a clearer and somewhat louder. It doesn't have a lot of low end bass, probably the same as the factory sound. I think all total for parts and labor, around $700.00. I'm still debating on putting in a 10 inch sub with amp in the back, if I did it'll make the truck sound 10 times better, but that's another $1200.00 easy.

I agree. I can't imagine there's another vehicle out there that stickers at $29K with such a poor factory setup - at least the non-JBL (haven't heard the JBL).

OP - I'm no expert whatsoever, but I've spent about $550 on my system and the improvements were worth it. I consider it a budget setup - audio pros would not be impressed in the least but it sounds really good to me and I can crank it up to uncomfortable levels without distortion. I went with Alpine type S coaxials, 6x9, for the front, paired with a new Kenwood media receiver and the Sound Ordnance 8" powered mini-sub.

So, I guess my post isn't super relevant since you're looking for the best, but I'd encourage you to do something - anything - because you really can't do any worse than the factory setup in my opinion.

Sounds like you did a lot for very minimal gain. I don't have that kind of money to dump into my stereo.

Check out this website it ranks some of the better speakers out there. I went with the JBLs and got all four speakers with tweeters for 200 bucks on Amazon. They sound great with a after market head unit.

Go to your local CaryToys or similar and you will have a wide variety of head units to select from for under $200 installed. All of which will give you more features and better sound than your current factory unit. Other than that I think it's time you started your own thread. The OP of this thread had a VERY specific set of questions with budget and game plan in place and we've gone SO far off topic with your questions and I'm not sure why. You 'have no budget to speak of' and don't seem to care what people are actually saying and I've grown quite weary of trying to help you. You've got enough information now that it's time you used the search both here and on Google and then went to your local stores to fill in the blanks and have the work done. There's nothing more we can do for you here.

Apparently stereos are a touchy subject around here! I appreciate all of your advice and input. Lots of great information but this thread is about speakers and I asked about speakers. Is that what you mean by going so far off topic? If I went off topic it's because I followed you there! Someone suggested I replace the head unit. Great! Something to look into down the road cause I don't have a budget for that right now. I was taking part in a thread about speakers by asking a question about SPEAKERS! I came here to get good advice based on a topic that was relevant.

Sorry Tacomoazul for apparently taking your speaker thread so far "off topic" with a speaker question. I'm pretty new here but I guess that's not allowed by some.

Ostrichsak. Again, thank you for all of your great information. You've given me a lot to consider but I simply asked about SPEAKERS. You gave a stereo tutorial and I should start another thread? Next time you want to jump down someone else's throat for going way off topic, you should read through the bible that you wrote and find where this thread went off topic. I've "grown weary" of the attitude. Can you stay on topic now please?

$1200 for a basic sub setup? Is that us dollars? Where are you shopping? A basic sub setup setup can be achieved for only a few hundred bucks.

Noted and I'll just ignore your posts for help from here moving forward. I sure as hell don't need to go out of my way to help someone who isn't appreciative.

Alpine is NOT the stock head unit and the Alpine deck that was underpowered (likely barely enough power to meet the response requirement of the speaker... yes, at a certain point a speak won't even respond to the power let alone play audio and the higher the power handling the higher this requirement is) is still over two times the power output of the stock deck. The Focal components you suggested require 6 watts RMS just to function and the stock deck would barely be pushing that on a good day.

When you replace the components that make up your car audio system you need to thoughtfully match them to each other and upgrade in a manner that makes sense if you're not doing it all at once. Throwing a set of Focal 6/tweet components on the stock deck is horrible suggestion at best and at worst it could mean the person taking your idea doesn't even have audio until they save up for an external amp to power them, an after market head unit or both.

I'm done with this thread. It's clear the OP has got his questions answered and the rest is just noise at this point anyway.

If you wanted good sound, should have bought a gm.. MY GF has a 2012 Subaru forester. Think ours is bad... Go drive one a forester. Sounds like I'm listing to my music through a set of 3 dollar ear buds

LOL! The wife had a 2010 Forester right before the divorce. That car has the worst car stereo I have ever heard. Liked the car though. The stock Tacoma stereo is light years better than that Forester and it also sucks. Go figure, Subaru is partly owned by Toyota.
