Best stump bumper for third gen?

Hey all, wanted to ask for some of your guys' opinions, especially those who have stump bumpers for their trucks. In case y'all don't know what I'm talking about, I'm referring to metal bumpers that only go in place of the front most part of the bumper, the part where the license plate mounts. In a previous thread I asked if something like this would be doable on 887 coils and the consensus was yeah since the 887 coils can handle light loads ~100lbs.

I'm gonna attach some of the bumpers I've been looking at. I would like to look into one that's going to have the least effect on front end sag, and something that doesn't need cutting into OEM stuff. One of the one's I'm gonna link I think requires cutting, but I can't remember. Maybe the body armor one? What would even need to be cut? Just curious.

Are there any ones besides or including these that you guys like and would recommend. How did install go? Anything to watch for? Any recommended lighting to go with them? since a lot of them can accommodate light pods or bars.

Would a bumper that ways 80 something pounds make a differences from one that ways like 60 pounds? In terms of sagging the front end?

Sso is the OG and my choice (what i have). Greenlane off-road has an aluminum version if you want light weight

I ordered this bumper 2 weeks ago. Almost no cutting of bumper cover and they make it in aluminum.

I just checked their site and do really like the look of it. By any chance would you know how heavy it is? Also did you get one with a lightbar cutout and if so, which one? Is it just me or do they tailor the cut out to a specific brand of light bar?

 

I really like that one too! Looks really good and interesting that they offer it in both steel and aluminum. Wouldn't aluminum decrease the structural integrity of it though? What's the weight difference between the two?

 

Aluminum is 28# lighter than steel according to their FAQ page. They say you can still use a 10,000# winch with it. They say that the aluminum will bend much easier than the steel, not surprising.

 

Are you planning to install a winch? Without a winch, you probably won't see much sag.

You can always strap weights to the frame to simulate the bumper weight.

Another vote for the OG SSO.



FYI, nearly all of them require some form of cutting. I think the Warn version requires the least.

Also, they're commonly called slimline bumpers, not stump bumpers.

No winch as of now and honestly don’t really see the need for it in the future but can’t say that with a large degree of confidence .

Yeah I mean I honestly want something for protection, looks, and maybe a light bar but primarily looks.

Does SSO have their shit back in order yet? Last I read they were purchased and things were a complete mess.

 

2017 doesn't have radar cruise control... so, no, it has no effect on my CC.

 

am looking at this one. Steel for the bumper and aluminum for the cover. Plus you can take the cover off and easily add a light bar and winch down the road with out taking the whole bumper off. I recently purchased the Cali Raised Stealth bumper. I highly recommend checking it out. They were great deal with, had it in stock, & it arrived at my door in under a week. It is very well made with beautiful welds. I haven’t installed it yet, so no pics at the moment.

 

I don't need luck bought on my own side of the border. From another high quality company that delivered ahead of schedule.

Just food for thought if anyone else reads that recommendation that could end up with a potential head ache.
